FWIW, the flagpoles at Forbes Field were in the field of play, so I can see some connection to the eccentricities of old ballparks. Forbes Field wall was 457’ by the flagpoles.

I’m okay with axing lower leagues if that means the young players have more pay and better living conditions. The new rookie setup would seem to do at least one. No buses. No bad stadiums and training facilities.

This isn’t directed at you @fryeguy93 I promise, but there was nothing stopping MLB from doing what you mentioned years ago, particularly in terms of pay , living conditions, and facilities.
