The Official Super Bowl XLIII Thread

newsflash:
the official on the feild called it a fumble.
the replay official didn't bother buzzing it down because he said it was a fumble.
the league head of officials said it was the right call.

next.

Yeah, I'd expect them to come out a few days after the Super Bowl and say they made a mistake that potentially affected the outcome of the world's biggest sporting event. Don't act like a smartass when you're spouting off idiocy.

:eek:lol: ok. have your opinion, two people at the game, as it happened, called it a fumble. the ref on the feild and the repaly official. that happened at the time of the play. and it wasn't a few days after the super bowl, it was that night.

watch any number of analysts talk about that play, Jim Mora and the guys on NFL total access for one, and they all say the same thing........it was a fumble.

they also agree that sure, given the situation, it should have been looked at, but at the end of the day, they did get it right, which is what matters most.

that's not being a smart ass, it's called being right.
and as someone that apparently just simply refuses to acknowledge any of this, i'd be real careful as to what you consider "spouting off idiocy".

Al Michaels said during the broadcast before the Steelers snapped the ball for for the final knee down that the play had been reviewed and upheld. The NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira said immediately after the game that it was reviewed and the right call made. You might want to check your facts before spouting off yourself.

And when did the league officials issue a statement? Go ahead and pick and choose what needs a response. It's obvious what you're reading is, "The Steelers should forfeit the Lombardi Trophy and apologize to all of us." At some point, the lady doth protest too much.

Is also the basis for his gripes on a few Steelers losses over the years.

not at all, just point out the defficiencies in all the mouth breathing lunacy from every so called pundit about the outcome of this game or this call etc...

you've challenged everything i've stated.

none if it is untrue. it was a fumble. anyone that had anything to do with determining the outcome of the play said so in the first place.

the people that make sure those people do their jobs the right way, said they made the right call.........right after the game..........not yesterday or today........that night. just as i stated in my last reply.

you're just plain wrong, and you're reacting to it badly.

you ever get the feeling that no ones listening?:)

Not at 12:33 am. Debating this incident well over 24 hours after it happened has lost its luster and I can assure you I could give a damn less on how you coach your players. To each their own. Now go get some sleep, you're undoubtedly exhausted "Coach".

i don't see why they ever buzz the official on the field if the booth review is all that is necessary.

Well you and thagodfather have been so gracious and humble. Please. I spent five minutes watching James Harrison fall into the endzone for an obvious TD. Then I spent five more minutes watching Santonio clearly get two feet in the endzone. I thought the Warner throw/fumble was much, much less cut and dry. The ball (whether it was in control or not) was in the region of his hand as his arm was moving forward. That to me sets up reasonable doubt about the call of the fumble. I never saw anything like that in the replay of Holmes' TD catch. Now, with that in mind, a replay should have happened for the sake of consistency and considering how big of a play it was.

they buzz the official on the feild if they think there's cause to review the play.

ultimately, though it's the official's call as to whether or not the call should be reversed based on what he sees in the review.

in this case, the replay official didn't buzz him because he didn't see any evidence to warrant a review. thus no review.

key word. it doens't matter what you think.

what part of this do you not understand? The replay official reviewed the play saw it was a fumble, and didn't buzz the official.

this isn't the same as college rules where every play gets reviewed, regardless. the replay officials in the NFL only look at what could be questionable calls. they looked at this, said it was a fumble, so no need to replay.

on TD's under two minutes, generally speaking, they will review anything that requires a determination of where a ball carrier's knee was down or if both feet and possesion could be established.

in this case, the call was right. i don't get all the uproar.

let me ask you a simple quesiton...do you still believe that it was an incomplete pass?

When I watched it live I thought it was. On a replay I wasn't quite as sure. Now that I've seen it on TV several times I feel the call was probably right. I was 100% certain about the other review calls with just the live view. I think given the magnitude of the play it should have been given further consideration. And when the argument over this topic began (Sunday night) most of us had seen the play live and then seen I think one replay. Not really enough for all these "it was definitely a fumble" declarations that I saw. My opinion is that they should have looked at it again, seeing as how the only criteria I could see for replays up to that point was that it was a huge, gamechanging play. The replay official may have examined the play, but not with the same thoroughness he employed for several other plays which were far more obvious.

let me get this straight....we've been arguing, not over whether or not the right call was made, but that there should have been a replay just for the sake of having the replay....regardless of whether or not the call was right?

Please tell me that isn't the case.

If so, then i apologize to anyone that's read this thread and had to sit thru this ridiculous debate.

in an effor to shed light on what the repaly rules are, and who's responsible for what..here's a link to the rules.........and i know it's a steeler site, but this is linked from NFL's rules/regulations as part of NFL.com and it's team pages.
Steelers Fever - NFL Replay Rules

The replay assistant is positioned in front of the touch-screen monitor. This person decides which replays will be relayed to the field monitor for review by the referee after a coach's challenge is issued, and whether an official's time-out will be called for a play review in the final two minutes of each half and overtime.
so there you go. if the replay assistant doesn't see the need for a replay, then it's his call to not buzz the official, which is what happened here. and as it turns out, the ref on the feild and the replay official were right. should not be an issue of this magnitude.

My first post of this thread. I'll try to be less subtle in the future.
being subtle doesn't seem to be your problem. Being wrong and not knowing it, however, does. next time you should at least have a working knowledge of what your are attempting to talk about before putting your foot in your mouth.:hi:

Considering you just spent hours not understanding what you were arguing about, I think the best response would be to have you read your own post.

you know, i had to go back and see what got me on this rant to begin with.

and you know what i found?

I realize hail marys hardly ever work, but with all the big plays that went on in that game the Cardinals deserved their shot to create one more
My response:
then they shouldn't have fumbled the ball away with 5 seconds left.

key point, youre response:
I don't think they did. A review would have been nice.

now we put facts to opinion here:
newsflash:
the official on the feild called it a fumble.
the replay official didn't bother buzzing it down because he said it was a fumble.
the league head of officials said it was the right call.

next.

and from this point, is where the 'spouting idiocy' comments came and this digressed in to pissing contest, in which you conveniently decided to change what you were arguing over all together. because if this was your original point:
let me get this straight....we've been arguing, not over whether or not the right call was made, but that there should have been a replay just for the sake of having the replay....regardless of whether or not the call was right?
then you did an awful job of communicating it based on how you started out stating that it was a fumble.

again, you are simply wrong, and you react badly to it. i again ask that you have some idea of what the heck you are talking about before you enter in to a discussion....or who knows, the idiot may be you.

I clearly stated I didn't think it was a fumble and then I changed my mind after seeing more replays of the play. I didn't think one replay was enough to make that judgment. Those posts have timestamps. The argument didn't begin this morning.

sure it's debatable....the ref on the feild called it a fumble. you say it's not. that sounds like it's debatable to me.

and fortunate for me, i'll just go with what the ref called.

Sounds like a replay isn't that absurd of an idea.

and virtually no where until we get the post where i finally asked the question, did we get to this revelation that you apparently had, that it wasn't that the call was wrong, it was that they didn't review it, and tell you it wasn't wrong.

i can't help it if you can't convey your points clearly and concisely. but do me a favor next time, work out all the particulars before you decide post one side of a story and then all the sudden decide to switch gears w/out telling anyone.

my point of contention stayed the same thru out. not my issue if you simply don't want to acknowledge what is true and factual.

you picked a quote in response to another poster? nice. and if you had simple comprehension skills, you'd realize that the point of contention that Bassman and i brought up was that whether or not it was a fumble was debatable, not whether or not they should review it was debatable, as you claim.

and guess what? i'm still right.

If you can't figure out what I'm saying don't bother chiming in on an argument I'm having with another poster. For someone so concerned with how others are reacting, have you considered how you're behaving after your team just won a record 6th Super Bowl? If you want me to react well, don't provide "NEWFLASH" type post, call other mouth-breathers, and just continually say "I'm right, you're wrong". Have a great damn time celebrating your victory.

you can't spell smart ass and then talk of someone spouting off idiocy. how ironic?

i was accused of "gloating".
i did. what team do you support?
