I would strongly disagree on this. You don't know these guys. There may be some but not a team full. Every team in every sport has some.
I’m not sure anyone REALLY knows them except those that spend every day with them, ie coaches and other players. Can only base opinions on how they act on field, when visible to everyone else

Vitello is still just calling it a trainer thing with his backside. I think hes trying to imply that Vitello is getting at hes not really hurt, but he doesnt want to throw Ahuna under the bus.
I disagree Vitello has never been toatally forthcoming with injury information.

Not arguing just asking. So you don't think last year's team could compete with AA? I don't deal with AA or AAA anymore. I do think I have a decent idea of who can compete at the next level.
No worries. By all means I’m not arguing. It’s an interesting conversation. Would last years team win some games at that level? Sure. It’s baseball. Could they compete day in and day out? No. Offensively, I think UTs top/elite hitters from the 2022 team would compete over time with some reps, but several would not. Think about it. If the guys from 2022 were at that level, wouldn’t they be in AA or AAA already? They aren’t yet. It takes time to develop. UTs pitching from that team, outside of one or two guys (like Joyce etc) would have a very tough time. Even the top guys would struggle for a while. You have to remember that AA and AAA hitters and pitchers are the elite top MLB prospects for their respective organizations. Every AA and AAA player is one call away from the bigs. You don’t make it to that level unless they think you can contribute in the MLB. That’s why many never make it to that level. Hitters rarely chase pitches outside of the zone and they have solid approaches. They don’t get fooled easily. That’s how they got there. Also, for pitchers, the strike zone at that level is much different than the college/SEC level. Pitches just off the corner in college that get called strikes do not get called at that level. The zone is ridiculously tight. That means that their “stuff” needs to be elite.

College has become nothing more than big business due in large part to the proliferation of student loans. When I went to UT Knox the tuition was $1300 to $2100 per semester depending on how many hours you. Obviously did not include room & board. But look around the country at how large colleges and universities are growing. UT has been erecting new buildings all over campus at a dizzying pace. All in the name of higher education when in reality these universities are little more than massive debt machines.

This is a viewpoint I see from time to time here on VN that overlooks how the prospects of students are often greatly improved as a result of their time at UT, both through their education and personal development. If college attendance is seen as an avenue for intensive and focsued training in an area that will place a student in strong position to be competitive in the modern workforce, then these benefits often follow. If attendance involves picking whatever major will get your through while cheering on the Vols up close and partying, then it is probably going to end up in unnecessary debt.

UT has been erecting many buildings of late because the old ones were ancient, decrepit, and in some cases condemned. These buildings have been paid for in part from sizeable donations from alumni, i.e., the types of people who have benefited the most from their time at UT. On the other hand it has maintained fairly low tuition by modern standards and in the majority of recent years there has been no increase in tuition despite inflation.

Agree the personal attacks need to end, critique but don't criticize.
I’m trying my dangest to limit the personal attacks, I try and delete them ASAP but I’m not always on the forum during games. Also, if I don't get on for an inning or two, it’s difficult to go back and find them.

FREAK has the direct line on the Report Button, please use the report button and the questionable post goes directly to him……..

I’ve banned a few after repeated attacks but it like draining a sinking boat with a small bucket.

What surprises me, is we have regular posters attacking players too…..it‘s a shame if I have to ban them in the game thread, up to now I’ve taken the higher road and just deleted the posts but I may end up limiting the posts for some regulars, or docking Pick’em Points.

USE THE REPORT BUTTON!!!!

PM ignore Patrick, and those keyboard warriors like him. They know nothing about what they speak.
Go Vols. Go KC.

Arkansas 4-12 with RISP, UT 0-8. Sums up the difference between these two teams the entire season. One is just so clutch when they have to be and the other can’t buy one.

Gotta be honest, I know we've not got a lot of game experience, but I think there's an argument to be made for those guys getting more playing time. I know they keep guys in the program with the idea that their time will come, but at some point, you have to start thinking about shaking things up and giving these young guns a real chance to show what they can do. Some kids look great in practice, but don't come through when the lights are on. Others seem to have that "it" factor and seem to find another level when they're in the spotlight. This season is rapidly slipping away. I'm no coach, but I think I feel confident in saying that this team can now be considered who they are based on the body of work so far. Yeah, I know we might suffer through some growing pains on defense, but it seems like that's not a strength anyway so is it that big of a drop off with some of these young bats? Guess these tough decisions are why Tony V gets the big bucks. Let's hope he pushes the right buttons, but I'd get these youngsters on the field a lot more from here on out....and yeah, I'm saying start 'em.

Judging from those three player's stats, I'm not sure their growing pains would be measurably worse than what other player's are currently doing. Imagine being the opposing coach and getting the line up card with a bunch of players that haven't had many at bats? How is the opposing coach and pitcher going to pitch to guys they haven't prepared for. WORSE, take all their prep for what they thought the line up would be and throw it away. I think there would be a lot of value of a line up shake up like that for the first 3 innings. Maybe even six innings and THEN, maybe bring in the starters.

Essentially, I'd like the opposing team have to play against some level of controlled chaos for Sunday's afternoon game.

Like you said, it gives different, GOOD, RECRUITED players a chance to play against a very good team with very little downside for Tenn.

It's not a give up, it's strategy. It's literally team building because now you have upper classmen cheering on their teammates in a game that matters. I think it would make our entire team, more of a team and unify them.

It doesn't have to be like that for the rest of the season, but something significant needs to change ASAP or teams will just accrue more video of our starters and do even better against them than they would have. It forces other teams to react and prepare for Tenn in a new way and that's a good thing for Tennessee and our fellow fans.

I didn't have a good feeling about the previous two games, but for whatever reason, I DO have a good feeling about our chances this afternoon. The weather will be slightly better than yesterday. I like mid-day energy more than evening energy, so I'll (probably wrongly) project how I feel in the afternoon compared to the evening onto the Tennessee players.

I just feel like we're due. I know that's just a feeling and not fact based, but I know we have a good coach and players that make sacrifices just to practice and play on this team and that the work they've put in will pay off - it's just a matter of when.

So, "when" might as well be this afternoon.

I’m not knocking Patrick here as he does have some good posts, but there are lots on here that know very little and have never really played outside of rec ball and they critique a batter facing a 94 mph fastball, 87 mph slider, 80 mph curve, 85 mph change and think it’s easy. A batter can be made to look like a fool at any at bat, and look like Pete Rose or Barry Bonds the next time up……what looks easy sitting on your sofa, really ain’t!! Of course if you’ve never faced quality pitching you’d never know……however your posts pretty much tells the knowledgeable you know nothing.

Like the run down play last night, no mater what happened, you’re going to end up with men on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Yeah, it looked silly but the end result was the same if the infielder made the out at 1st, still there was going to be men on 2nd and 3rd anyway

I know everyone is frustrated but the fact is TN has 8 new fielders this season. I expect TN athletics to compete for national championships, every sport. We have the facilities, the $$$, fan base, and the administration.

With that said, it’s frustrating to read comments that players are prima donnas, have an attitude, etc. Elite athletes usually have an heir about them which enables them to forget a bad play and move on.

I’m not happy about the results but baseball is totally different game. Errors breed errors as they are contagious. It’s the life of baseball and our SEC schedule is draining. Right now there may be some doubt in the locker room. I hope not but they are human.

It’s the same thing in the business world when a person is going through a difficult time due to lack of sales, economy, etc.

Let’s see what happens over the next few weeks and take it from there. We have a lot to play for and there is time.

Go Vols!

👍

Also, if you expect near perfection in baseball, you picked the wrong sport to follow .

Kentucky sure has made it a success this year…..however CTV is a power guy and I don’t expect that to change
That is true, and you are correct, V is unlikely to change, if for no other reason than this roster is not designed to manufacture runs and win 4-2. Just not a “West Coast baseball” offense. We have what we have. Again, I come back to how many runners we leave on this year, and just how many two out or late inning hits we delivered last year. That, maybe more than the pitching, is the biggest difference between this year and last.

Yeah, last year the power worked, this year we are struggling a bit. I will say, we did leave lots of guys on base last year too, just not as many as this year.
Dropping a bunt down for a hit, is a good equalizer when someone is struggling too

At least last year when we left players on it was after we’d already scored 9 runs. This year, meh.

I am a proponent of a well executed, appropriately timed bunt. I am also acutely aware that is a risky position to take publicly with some posters on the board, so I can only be so vocal about it. 😉

Frankly, one thing you have to have for bunting to be effective is good baserunning. So far this year, I wouldn’t be too confident calling for many bunts.

Imo, I believe he was sat for poor performance and/or for not mentally being in the moment. CTV says to the media that it’s a nagging back injury (protecting his players from bad rapport) and media/fan backlash.
