The Official Tennessee @ Florida Series Thread (Fri. May 3rd Game 1 3PM EST, Game 2 after SECNET+) (Sat. May 4th 6:30PM EST SECNET+)

Don’t look now but LSU has won 3 straight series after losing their first 5. They end with Alabama and Ole Miss so those are winnable series also. With a win today they would be tied with Florida and be the 10 seed (Florida owns the tiebreaker). They might just play themselves into the NCAAT if they finish 14-16 in conference and a couple wins in the SECT would get them to 40 wins. They also could have their luck run out and Missouri finish ahead of them and miss the SECT altogether lol

I think it’s clear the MVP of the Saturday/ and the whole series really, was Jim Frye.

Mr. Frye (36th year-senior, walk-on, DH) courageously left a comfortable sofa with his overly chatty fiancé and went into his office to watch the rest of the game-where he had also watched game 1.

Further, Frye courageously RAN 2 stories down to basement to scavenge for any bottle of scotch, bourbon or Tennessee whisk(e)y he could find and RAN back up the 2 stories -past the angry and confused fiancé back to the office in time to catch the start of an 11 run inning. Pausing only once for a clean glass and a large cup of ice.

I’m sure we all agree the 52-year-old Jim Frye made this win possible and should also be considered for SEC Player-of-the-Week honors.
It’s a no brainer.

Few observations after Florida series:

1. If Hunter is that hitter the rest of the year…whoa baby! We go from dangerous to outright lethal. Moore, Burke, KT, Dreiling, Amick, Curley, Hunter, Cal do Cal things…would only leave us with DH spot to sure up!
2. Pitching is just flat out getting it done. Lots of people complained about pitching yet they keep rolling along and keep us in every single game. Even when the bats took a dip for a few games they were right there keeping us in every game and winning most of them! Thanks pitching staff…all the way around awesome job!
3. Backus needs a full chance…getting pulled after one bat against a pitcher for whatever reason is not a chance. Replacing him with a guy that is struggling to even make contact is mind boggling. Is Backus our 9th bat? I am not sure, but he should be given adequate at bats to see like all the others have.
4. Amick defensively is starting to be an issue. Multiple plays in multiple games, some which are very routine. I hope it is just an aberration but he supposedly had these issues at Clemson and no matter how great his bat is he will struggle to hold down that position on the next level playing this way.

Conclusion…team is locked…team is loaded…we have another true contender for Omaha and a possible national championship!

argree with Backus, Tony even eluded in his post game interview he jumped the gun a little quick with him. I think Backus may be another Lipscomb next year. Maybe not as "good" but he will be a significant contributor and a leader on the team

We smacked them top to bottomless!

If Kentucky wins though, we’re likely #1 on Monday.
That will end up happening at some point anyways. Arkansas still has to play Mississippi State and A&M. I could see them losing both of those series and likely even fall out of a top 4 seed in the SECT.

We could use Alabama beating Miss St to hand them their 10th loss. I am not sure who I want to win that Kentucky- Arkansas game.
I would rather come out of the weekend on top in the East. We have similar opponents left to play so if everything is a wash and we end up tied we at least have the tiebreaker over Kentucky.

So are we cheering for Arkansas or Kentucky today?

If Arkansas wins, Tennessee is in 1st in the East. But if Kentucky wins and aTm loses, we’re probably ranked #1 in America.

Personally, I’ll take Arkansas winning and 1st in the East. Don’t really care to be ranked #1, even in the pub is nice.
Think we've gotten the needed results this weekend already, not sure I have a preference. Hope they all play 15...

I really don’t see why Wake keeps getting the benefit of the doubt in the rankings and NCAAT projections. Right now they are projected to be a 2 seed but are 10th in their own freaking conference. They lost a series to a Notre Dame team that started 2-16 in conference and came into their series 5-16. And Wake loses 2/3 to them and very nearly got swept. They have lost half of their conference series and still have to play Clemson and NC State, which both have been better than Wake. I’m sorry but I just don’t see it. They are a 3 seed at best and honestly should be a bubble team. They won’t make it out of a regional imo.

(1) Hunter plays a GREAT CF. He was better at the plate in past years and I hope he's getting back to that and doing even better.

(2) This has been Frank's best season so far as the pitching has been getting better as the season progresses. Last season was similar but started out woefully.

(3) I'm not sure anyone on the bench is the answer at the #8 spot right now.

(4) Unless we can move Amick to DH and allow Dean to go to 3rd and Ariel to go to SS. But I'm not sure Ariel would be any better at 8 hole. Billy needs some extensive private coaching this summer at third if he wants to have a history there. Right now, no MLB team will draft him as anything but a 1B or DH.. He needs an entire month or so of just fielding ball after ball after ball at the hot corner until he feel comfortable. The throws to 1B will take care of itself if he can stay calm. When we get into tourney play, Tony's hand may be forced as the Vols can't afford to give away a run or two every few games.

I'll add this, Cannon Peebles needs ABs. And with these ABs he needs to show neutral body language. Bad pitch calls and bad luck drives at fielders are effecting him way too much. I would be ok with Pebbles being the DH at #8 and sticking with him long term. We know he has been a great hitter. He needs to get into a rhythm and positive brainspace.

That’s veteran play. Can’t replace the knowledge that comes from experience. You have my vote.

BTW…. Your replay had me laughing my freaking ass off.

It just feels so immoral to root for the Hogs. If I find myself pulling for them, I’ll need a long shower afterwards.
