The balk had nothing to do with coming set. A pitcher does not have to come set to throw to first. The balk was called correctly. A pitcher has to step towards the base he is throwing to. When using a jump move like Burns does, the body has to come completely around and be pointed towards 1st base. Take a look at Burns’ body after he completes the pick off. Everything is still pointed towards home plate and that is a balk..Technically Burns balks just about every times he throws to first somebody just finally called it. Don’t be surprised if it gets called more often now.Definitely came set. I don’t know enough visually to see balks 90% of the time but the feet looked funny to me. Didn’t really step or jump off, he just kind of pivoted. Don’t know if that was it or not but it looked off to my untrained eye.
The pitching last year didn’t have nearly the pressure on it to carry the team last year. It’s beisbol. Throw a little more leavening in there. Will definitely be a great follow moving forward into the spring.We knew our hitting would fall off this year but expected our pitching to carry us.
We need our pitching to be better....
