You need two scores and you need time after the onside kick to actually get down the field.

The call makes sense. You’re giving an offense around 40 seconds to work with instead of 20 (or some amount in the teens if you get sacked or tackled in bounds).

I spent a hell of a lot of money on the Vols when they were ass and definitely not committed to winning. Just part of being a fan.

You at least try to score on 3rd down there so that if you get the ball back you only need a FG. It essentially guaranteed that our odds of tying the game were 1%.

I agree with getting the FG there if there is like 2 minutes left. But if you NEED a TD and you're that close with 41 seconds left you throw it into the end zone on 4th down.

Of course if you don't score a TD on that 3rd down you kick a FG. But kicking the FG meant that we had 38 seconds left to recover a onside kick and score a touchdown. Instead of 38 seconds (depending how long it took to get into the endzone, recover an onside kick and get a couple chunk plays and a FG.

This franchise is abysmal with no signs of hope for the future. Our draft choices have been disastrous to say the least. Could be years before we’re contending again.
