It sounds like all active NFL coaches interviewing are virtual till Jan 22nd. Saw it in a SI article. Shaw can be in person now since he's not currently employed by the NFL.Do virtual interviews count or does it have to be in person

Titans Plan Interview With Former Stanford Coach David Shaw
According to reports, former Stanford coach David Shaw will meet with Tennessee Titans leadership this weekend to discuss the coaching vacancy. Shaw is one of 11 current and former NFL assistants vying for the job.www.si.com
Maybe? The NFL website says interviewing at least one minority candidate in person was suggested, but it doesn't specifically say it was approved. But the next paragraph below makes it sound like Goodell thinks the updates are part of the requirement. That’s what I’m saying. Since we’ve only conducted virtual interviews, do those count towards the Rooney rule? I’m not sure
In recent years, the Workplace Diversity Committee has proposed additional changes to strengthen the Rooney Rule, including:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the updates “bolster the current Rooney Rule requirements and are intended to create additional opportunities for diverse candidates to be identified, interviewed, and ultimately hired when a vacancy becomes available.”
- Clubs must interview at least two diverse candidates from the Career Development Advisory Panel list, or a diverse candidate not currently employed by the club.
- Clubs must conduct an in-person interview with at least one external minority candidate for any GM or head coaching interview.
- Clubs must continue to consider multiple diverse candidates.
- Clubs must maintain complete records and provide them to the league upon the Commissioner’s request.
- If the final decision maker is involved from the beginning of the hiring process, they must be involved through the conclusion of the process.
Both I'm sure. But if an owner is impressed with a candidate and already knows they will hire them, any forced interview after that is just checking boxes. It makes one wonder if owners are really interviewing candidates or just checking boxes.
The titans job is one rung above the panthers job. The more I read on what went down, I don't know what to make out of it other than the typical disfunction has surrounded this franchise. Now reports are coming out that Vrabel was the one that wanted to trade Henry, Tannenhill and etc, but the compensation (draft picks) was going to be little. The narrative surrounding this franchise right now isn't great. I don't have as problem with a franchise that believes in it's vision and moving to get rid of people who aren't riding in the same direction......I do have a problem with a franchise who either cannot, or will not communicate that vision to it's fans or prospective coaches.
It looks like we aren't going to be serious players and likely end up with a coach who was pissed over by others. Maybe we get lucky, maybe we don't. But the odds aren't really in our favor.
