The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Patriots fired Mayo. Gotta think Vrabel is the next coach there quickly.
Or that the higher ups told him to tank the game / ease up on the gas for the top overall draft pick and he didn’t/refused.

It’s bizarre for an NFL team to fire a coach after only a season without something, like, “terminated with cause” level happening first.

Wasn't aware you had such a fascination with Deion.
Yes. He’s in my top five favorite athletes……

I’m not saying he’d be a great NFL coach, but the buzz in the city with a new stadium…..what could be worse? 2-15?

This is what I want……….

From Paul Kuharsky:
The last time the #Titans had the No. 1 pick in the draft was in 2016, when they traded it to the Rams with a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder. (They felt comfortable at QB, having drafted Marcus Mariota at No. 2 a year earlier.)

They got the 15th pick, two seconds, a third, a 2017 first and a 2017 third.

After another trade, the players they wound up with included Jack Conklin, Derrick Henry, Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith.

If we keep the pick, I would take Abdul Carter. The thought of him, Simmons, and Sweat together is frightening.

If we do find a trade partner, I wouldn’t be opposed to trading down to the 5-10 range and taking James Pearce Jr. I still think that would be an absolute monster defensive line. But I would only trade down if it gives us back our 3rd rounder that we gave up for Sneed.

If, God forbid, they insist on taking one of these QBs at #1, I prefer Cam Ward. But I would much rather them grab someone in free agency/trade for a veteran and continue building the team from the inside out. We suck at drafting QBs anyway.

Personally, I don’t expect trading down to be an easy out this year. This doesn’t appear to be that type of draft class, but all it takes is one team, so we’ll see.

It’s now happened 4 years in a row and he’s like the 8th or 9th guy to have it happened. Not that bizarre

So, here are the games that matter this weekend with regard to the Titans draft position, both with regards to if the Titans lose to the Texans and if they beat the Texans:

IF THE TITANS LOSE TO THE TEXANS:
New England (3-13) vs Buffalo (13-3) - 1PM ET
- New England winning would give Tennessee the #1 pick overall
- New England losing would give Tennessee the #2 pick overall

IF THE TITANS BEAT TO THE TEXANS:
- Cleveland (3-13) vs Baltimore (11-5) - Saturday 4:30PM ET
- New York Giants (3-13) vs Philadelphia (13-3) - 1 PM ET
- Jacksonville (4-12) vs Indianapolis (7-9) - 1PM ET
- Carolina (4-12) vs Atlanta (8-8) - 1PM ET
- New York Jets (4-12) vs Miami (8-8) - 4:25PM ET

In addition if the Jets lose after a Titans win, the following games also become important given the closeness of the Jets and Titans SOS:
TO INCREASE THE JETS' SOS:
- Pittsburgh (10-6) beating Cincinnati (8-8) - Saturday 8PM ET
- Denver (9-7) beating Kansas City (15-1) - 4:25PM ET
- Minnesota (14-2) beating Detroit (14-2) - 8:20PM ET
TO DECREASE THE TITANS' SOS:
- Pittsburgh (10-6) beating Cincinnati (8-8) - Saturday 8PM ET
- Dallas (7-9) beating Washington (11-5) - 1 PM ET
- Las Vegas (4-12) beating Los Angeles Chargers (10-6) - 4:25PM ET

It's worth noting for that aspect that for Tennessee's SOS to be less than the Jets', Tennessee needs all 3 of those outcomes (Bengals, Commanders, and Chargers losing) AND BOTH Denver and Minnesota to each win their games.
- If (A) any of Tennessee's 3 noted opponents win OR (B) Minnesota AND Pittsburgh AND Denver all lose:
- The Titans' SOS will stay stronger than the Jets, giving NY any tiebreaker
- If all 3 of Tennessee's noted opponents lose AND EITHER Denver beats Kansas City OR Minnesota beats Detroit
- The Titans and Jets would have the same SOS, meaning any tie would be for the draft pick order would determined by coin flip.

At the moment, the Titans can end up anywhere from the #1 overall pick to the #7 overall pick depending on their game and this weekend's outcomes.

Patriots fire former Vol Jerod Mayo to get Black Monday off to an early start.

The right answer at #1 for the Titans should be Travis Hunter and worry about who the QB is later.

Titans need someone that can make plays on both sides of the ball and bring excitement to the franchise.

Vrabel is a close friend of Patriots owner Robert Kraft and is the leading candidate for the New England coaching job.

Not saying I agree with all these, but am I missing something?
That's best available (and also ESPN who everyone on this board constantly discredits) but it isn't realistic for how the draft plays out. There are 4 QB desperate teams picking in the top 9. 5 counting us. We're either going to take Hunter, a QB, or trade down. I'm fine with taking Carter, but not at #1. Although I would rather take an offensive playmaker, something we desperately need. It's the same reason Parsons fell to the Cowboys, other positions take priority.

The thing is, we’re also a QB needy team. If we aren’t sold enough to take one of these guys at #1, what makes you so sure other teams are? Let alone trade up to do so?

Well, I suppose I agree in the sense that all it takes is for one team to fall in love with a prospect and trade up, but IF we don’t find a trade partner (which is very much a possibility mind you, this is not a particularly strong draft), I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to taking the top EDGE at #1. In fact, I would MUCH rather do that than take Hunter.

54 sacks allowed on the year.

They should trade down and pickup an OT and find another solid OL in a trade. At this point you keep Levis another year because there isn't a QB there you feel good about. Levis was a bad draft pick for the Titans because he wasn't an immediate starter type and they got rid of Tannehill too soon. Levis is too error prone and needed to time to get used to the speed and complex offenses. Even Little Stevie Wonder could see it.
