The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Well, I suppose I agree in the sense that all it takes is for one team to fall in love with a prospect and trade up, but IF we don’t find a trade partner (which is very much a possibility mind you, this is not a particularly strong draft), I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to taking the top EDGE at #1. In fact, I would MUCH rather do that than take Hunter.
Need a playmaker. An elite DL is useless if you can't score TDs.

Hunter or no Hunter, we ain’t scoring very many TDs until we get a lot better at QB. WR may have been underwhelming, but it was not our problem this year.

An elite D-line will definitely help you win more games than a single playmaker with no QB.

I like Hunter, but I see players like him as a luxury.

The right answer at #1 for the Titans should be Travis Hunter and worry about who the QB is later.

Titans need someone that can make plays on both sides of the ball and bring excitement to the franchise.
Despite any insistences he might have, in the long run he’ll end up only playing on one side of the ball (most likely the side with the higher salary average, so wide receiver).

That said, either would be of major benefit to the Titans. Their WR corp is pretty much 30-year old Calvin Ridley…and (one could argue) just duct tape and bandages after that.

They should trade down and pickup an OT and find another solid OL in a trade. At this point you keep Levis another year because there isn't a QB there you feel good about. Levis was a bad draft pick for the Titans because he wasn't an immediate starter type and they got rid of Tannehill too soon. Levis is too error prone and needed to time to get used to the speed and complex offenses. Even Little Stevie Wonder could see it.
Sadly, they really didn’t. Tannehill’s age finally started catching up with him and then finally just hit him like a brick wall in his last season. Watching from the beginning of last season, arm strength, pocket presence, reading defenses…it all just significantly dropped.

And to clarify, I’m not arguing in favor of Levis should have been starting or anything like that; Tannehill’s body just finally started giving out and honestly they probably should have been moving on from him a year before they did…but his contract ended up keeping him around a year or so longer than he should have been there.

Hopefully we aren't dumb enough to go QB at #1 in a weak QB class and with several QB need teams behind us. We could really set ourselves up for a quick rebuild if we trade out and take a bunch of picks. And still grab a top 5 overall talent like Carter or Hunter.

But if we do take a QB, I don't hate Ward. Cam Ward has the sort of experience that should allow him to have success early. He has also been very efficient and very accurate the last 3 years. But the big knock on him is part of the same issue that we have had with Levis, which is the "hero ball" type of play. He holds on to the ball way too long and often tries to make something out of nothing and ends up making a huge negative play. The strip sack to end the GT game was really bad. Just take check down or throw it away and go to 3rd down.

Sanders is a bit raw and takes WAY too many sacks. I agree with whoever said that he takes sacks to prop up his completion percentage and avoid Int's so that he is more appealing to scouts. He also doesn't have a great arm strength.

The thing is, we’re also a QB needy team. If we aren’t sold enough to take one of these guys at #1, what makes you so sure other teams are? Let alone trade up to do so?
As others have said. All it takes is one, and one usually does. We'll entertain offers and hopefully someone really wants Sanders.

I honestly expect us to draft one of them. It’s just an easy move to go grab a shiny toy.
I agree. And I don't hate it. It's a gamble but attempting to pick a franchise QB always is. There's no guarantee we'll get a veteran FA worth a damn for next season or be in position to draft a QB in 2026 without a very costly trade. Also no guarantee the crop in 2026 is better than Ward and Sanders on paper.

If you're in position to pick the best available QB and you don't have one, you do it. Draft QB first and then the best available LT in the second round. Give whoever we pick a fighting chance at staying upright during his rookie season.

This mindset is how you ended up with Young. Locker Mariota and trading up for Levis. Better to clean house before letting Carathon and Callahan pick the next franchise QB.

Busts happen all around the league every year. It's a constant battle for teams to find their franchise QBs but you have to keep swinging. And what do Carthon and Callahan have to do with Young, Locker, and Mariota? By that logic whoever is picking doesn't matter because it's doomed to fail anyway, so why fire them?

Agreed. Pac-Man for example would’ve been worth the number one pick if not for his off the field issues. A quality corner has significant value. Even more value if he can play 10-20 snaps a game on offense

IMO The Titans could have a circa 2008 Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and it wouldn't be much better than what they currently have without significant improvement on the offensive line.

The correct way to approach the draft is to enter it with no must fill holes......... Meaning you enter the draft with an established QB you are comfortable starting next season. That way you remain flexible.

It's safe to say there will be a deeper draft next season, and given this is considered a down year for quality it will just likely be better

Entertain the offers and if you don't get what you like you address a need and attempt to get better. I think this year there is some desperation from a few teams who would likely give away draft capital for that first overall pick......if you can get multiple first round and other picks you take it......

Why clean house....... Let them pick their guy if they decide to go QB........I didn't think that's the plan though.

I don't believe they were responsible for Levis either.

My ideal free agency looks like this:

1. Trey Smith. Top tier guard. Vol/local legend. Makes too much sense here. He needs to be our primary target in FA. Bring him home.

2. QB. Lots of vets will be available and we need 1, regardless of who we draft with pick No. 1.

3. RT. Morgan Moses leads the RT group. Might be too expensive, but I would try here.

4. Defense. We need pretty much every position on defense, aside from CB and DT. Bring in Safety. Edge. We have basically no LBs.

If it was me for QB, I would try to make a deal for Danny Jones.... If the idea with the #1 is trade back for a king's ransom, get a bridge QB who is younger and see if he hits like Darnold who entered the league in a moron franchise that ruined him.

If he hits, great.... If he doesn't, you continue with the 2-3 year tank job

I agree, though Daniel Jones is essentially a free agent I think. He will come dirt cheap.

I also think the Seahawks move on from Geno and he could be a solid option. Carson Wentz is still hanging around. Cooper Rush wasn't terrible for the Cowboys. Falcons will most certainly try to move on from Cousins

There are a lot of very capable bridge QBs available this off-season
