I don't think Jerry would do that. Here is a mock draft I did where we trade Levis, 103, and 178 to the Cowboys for 76 and 174.

I doubt Jerry trades for a backup when he can draft one on day 3 or sign a UDFA. Will Grier is currently the backup but nobody is excited about that any more than they would be having Levis as backup. They need a backup QB. Value wise, its similar to the Sam Howell and Kenny Pickett trades last March.
Maybe Jerry has other plans. But they need a back up QB.
I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion here, but over the last week or so, I've gone back and watched damn near every throw he's made at Miami, and also watched as much of his Washington State film as I could find. And honestly, I really like Cam Ward.
He has flaws. He likes to play hero-ball, which I know we're all skeptical of after two years of Will Levis, but he's not nearly as reckless. And that's not just a hindsight thing. That was noticeable from Levis even at UK. Ward plays the game smarter, even though he sometimes trusts his arm too much.
He has a much better feel for the pocket, and although his arm may not be as strong as Levis's, his ball placement is noticeably better, as is his short and intermediate accuracy (his deep ball accuracy leaves a lot to be desired, although he does hit some dimes occasionally).
His athleticism is sneaky good. There were several games I thought he criminally underutilized his own ability to run.
His Washington State film was understandably a lot more raw, but funnily enough, all I could think about when watching it was a young McNair, which may actually be an apt comparison in terms of his ceiling. I also find it interesting that he was unranked as a prospect coming out of high school. Dude played at Incarnate Word (?) for two years before transferring to WSU, and he has steadily improved over his college career, even as he's risen through higher levels of competition.
I've seen enough to where I would not be upset if we took him 1/1.
I don't know what Jerry is likely to do, but going with a late round rookie QB or a UDFA doesn't seem like a wise move given Dak's propensity for getting injured. I suspect they'll add someone with NFL experience either before or during the draft.I doubt Jerry trades for a backup when he can draft one on day 3 or sign a UDFA. Will Grier is currently the backup but nobody is excited about that any more than they would be having Levis as backup.
I think Arch stays in school longer than that. I doubt he is the starter for one year and then declares for the draft.I am fine with Ward. I would rather have signed Russell Wilson and trade with the Giants (or someone else) for the picks and then have gone QB next year in a better class. I think that would have set us up better in the long run. But I also get that Coaches/Gms have no more than 3 years to show their plan is working and Callahan is probably gone at the end of this season if we don't improve our record significantly (or unless Ward has an amazing rookie season, regardless of record). If you're taking a gamble at QB, Ward is certainly a guy worth gambling on.
It will be really ****** though to see the Colts and their mediocre roster end up with No. 1 overall and they get another Manning for 15-20 years.
Probably both. I think since they sent dang near everyone down to his pro day, they are serious about him. Now whether that translates to drafting him or trying to pump up his stock remains to be seen. I think they will probably draft him because there really isn't a prospect this year worth giving up a ton to move up to #1.Can’t tell if the Titans actually like Ward or are trying to convince someone he’s worth trading for.
I think Cam Ward with his talent and coming off the season he just had in Miami would have put him above both McCarthy and Nix. What held Cam back a bit last year was who he played for. Washington State was pretty terrible and handicapped his production. He transfers to Miami and has a Heisman caliber season.Giants taking Wilson makes me think nobody is trading for Ward.
I’m concerned we are taking a guy who may not have been a top 5 QB drafted last year.
