The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

It’s a road game against a top NFL team on a short week. Not exactly a recipe for success. This team can still be a playoff team.

Sure against the team that is going to play against Brady in the AFC Championship game. Our goal this year is to win the division and get to the playoffs and then continue adding talent in the off-season.

Just feels like we're destined to be a mediocre franchise. We could of put ourselves on the map with our performance tonight, but we blew it big time. It's frustrating.

We can't run the ball. If we win the division it's because of injuries for Texans and the division bring a suck fest. Even if we get there we will just get exposed. We ain't going to win in a shoot out.

I guess quit watching then. Got nothing for you.

That’s okay. The last time we went to the playoffs, George W. Bush was in office. I just want to see the titans in a postseason game. We’ve got something we can build upon, and I don’t think super high draft picks are as important in the nfl as they are in the NBA.

This reminds me of our game against San Diego in 2009. We needed to win to get to the playoffs but instead we lost 42-17.

This wasn't as much of a must win like that one was, but it's strikes me as similar because the Titans can't deliever when it really matters.

I agree about the picks but we just can hit on wr's. We have some glaring holes as well.

Idk about y'all but I think Corey Davis is going to be a great player for us the next few years as long as he stays healthy.

Yeah, It seems like every week he has an amazing reception staying in bounds.

You can really see the Terrell Owens comparisons.

IMO, this team is still two drafts away from being dominant, if the coaching staff is capable. That later point is a huge question mark. I think Mularkey is proving to be a .500 head coach who is employing a .500 OC. For him to do better as a HC, they are going to need to hire a top OC. That O is a mess. But I could never envision him as a SB HC, just more of a transition guy until they hire the right one.

The O-line has regressed. The play calling and schemes have been abysmal, which may be why the O-line has regressed so much. They are starting to telegraph the play calls by formation and limit their own options - which is a major reason why Butch Jones is gone from UT. D-Murray is running into the backs of his O-line instead of cutting off the blocks. Probably scheme and his fault combined. It's is a hodge podge of stuff. Maybe a third of it fits MM. He's thinking way too much back there, which is causing him to stare down receivers. They simply have no identity, no go-to that works as a unit.

On D they are not getting the push they need up front. I kept thinking the whole game as well as in the other games against good opponents this season that I sure wished Derek Barnett had been drafted. There is no real speed rusher outside to make the O-line move and open the pocket for the push. When you have that guy you have to slide another O-lineman out to help or chip block him with a TE or RB. The current D roster really doesn't play like a real 3/4 should. The LBs are pedestrian. They make a play if it happens in their area and are pretty much useless in coverage. They don't track the RB on passes. Still need another CB to go with Ryan and Jackson. Cyprien has been nothing so far. Byard is the star with Jackson ascending. Other than those two, there is no quickness from the rest of the unit like you see on the better D's in the league.

That's my 6 games to go assessment, which is worth nothing. They are lucky the division sucks this year. But they have some serious players/coaches assessments and modifications to make in the off season if they want to take the next step because this is a .500 team IMO.

Playoff picture. Need to get into that 3 seed if we can

The remaining schedules look like this:

Tennessee (6-4):

11/26: @ Indianapolis (3-7)
12/3: Houston (4-6)
12/10: @Arizona (4-6)
12/17: @ San Francisco (1-9)
12/24: Los Angeles Rams (7-3)
12/31: Jacksonville (7-3)

Jacksonville:

11/26: @ Arizona (4-6)
12/3: Indianapolis (3-7)
12/10: Seattle (6-3)
12/17: Houston (4-6)
12/24: @ San Francisco (1-9)
12/31: Tennessee (6-4)

It’s fairly close to even, but they look like they have the slightly better road ahead (with our toughest matchups remaining being the Rams plus Jacksonville, while they have the Seahawks plus us).

Basically we need to win out. That’s a possibility too if the offense can get it together. It kills me to watch us beat the teams we should, beat a team or there we shouldn’t and then go lay an egg like we did offensively Thursday night. I really feel the only thing this team lacks is consistency offensively to be a real threat. I know we are still a year or two away it’s just frustrating at times. It seems the offense when they, for lack of a better term, decide to play good football they can score with and on anybody. The play calling lacks creativity on offense. I think that’s my biggest qualm.

The next 4 we SHOULD win. The Rams is a winnable game. We win the next 4 and say each team drops one it’ll come down to that New Years Eve game for the division. I’d like to work our way somehow to that 2 seed but unless Pittsburgh or New England poo the bed that’s not happening. We need to shoot for that 3 seed but I’ll take getting in the playoffs however we can do it. Gotta be in it to win it.

I think we go 3-3 over that stretch. The losses will be ones that surprise us.

I hope we can go 5-1.

I just don’t trust this team. I dont know where we are particularly skilled.

The Rams game is winnable, yes, but let’s be honest here: the Rams are one of the better passing offenses in the league (statistically they’re right around where Pittsburgh is) and our biggest weakness on defense - as Pittsburgh was more than happy to show - is clearly the passing defense. It’s not a greatest matchup situation for this team.
