In other words we’re not getting any help. Win 2 of these last 3 and we should be good... I think.Playoff scenarios this week
1. Titans win, Ravens loss vs Jags
2. Titans win + Raiders loss or tie to Chargers, Miami loss to New England, Cleveland win or tie against Giants
3. Titans win + Raiders tie or loss, Miami loss, Titans or Browns clinch strength of victory tie breaker over Miami
There’s a few reasons things didn’t work out looking back on it. Mariota wasn’t a great fit for our offense, constant coaching upheaval hindered his progression, and he suffered from injuries quite a bit. The offense Oakland was running last night seemed to be a great fit for him. It featured a lot of read option and allowed him to make plays on his own. Mariota is who he is at this point, a QB with elite athleticism that’s at his best when he’s able to get the ball out quickly. However, he’ll always have average arm strength by NFL standards and struggle with accuracy from time to time, but will also make phenomenal throws on occasion, like his first touchdown toss last night. His pocket presence leaves something to be desired as well. I don’t know if I can say he’s better than Carr or not, they’re completely different QB’s. It just depends on which skill set you see as more desirable.Question for Titans fans.
I'm sure a lot of you saw TNF last night. Mariota came in for Carr after the groin injury and he looked pretty good. The hot take is that Mariota is actually the Bee's Knees. Theres Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers (maybe?), and Marcus Mariota. I'm avoiding that.
Its obvious that the Titans turned it up a notch when they moved on from Mariota. (I was blaming Smith for Mariota's failure, but Tannehill made that argument look kind of silly.)
So the question is, why? Did the Titans completely change up their offense when the switched QBs? Is Tannehill just better? Did they begin to lean more heavily on Henry and the run game? Is Mariota actually an above average starting NFL QB who just needed a new start somewhere? I know its only one game and all, but... If Gruden - who's playoff chances aren't mathematically nil but still basically dead-in-the-water - decided to test out Mariota for the rest of the sesaon, is that just a waste of time?
I watch the Titans occasionally but I live in Oklahoma so I don't get most of their games.
Mariota played well at times as a Titan. When he is on, he can be really good. Still can't throw a deep ball, but otherwise really good. I'm not surprised he played well last night. The thing with his is he can't play like that consistently.Question for Titans fans.
