I would be sad to see Munch go at this time. It's obvious that he's doing a lot of things right. Discipline, though, is not one of those things. Aren't we the most penalized team in the league? It's lost us several games this year.

Getting better. No penalties this week. First time since 1972 that Bud's boys haven't been penalized in a game.

Just talked to #Titans Coach Mike Munchak and he has quashed the Penn State rumors once and for all. He's not interested in the job, he said

"I have a great deal of respect for Penn St and I hope they find a great coach there," Munchak said. "But I am happy where I'm at." #Titans

"I love my alma mater, but I have no interest in being the head coach at Penn St," Munchak said. "I never want to leave Tennessee." #Titans

Munchak has denied interest previously but rumors didn't go away. He said he's never talked to anyone at the school through process #Titans

Jason Jones missed practice today. Has a high ankle sprain and is in a walking boot. I doubt he'll play with that. Playing DE with that injury isn't the same as playing WR with it ala Nate Washington. Nate has been a warrior playing through the ankle sprain, but the mobility and strength required to battle it out on the DL is a lot different than running a route. With William Hayes battling a groin injury, the team is in trouble at DE this week. I guess we'll see a lot of Malcolm Sheppard vs the Texans.

Team has been in trouble at DE all season. would love to see Morgan finish with a couple sacks Sunday.. he has played better of late but we have to get some pressure on the QB. Dave Ball has checked out of late. Klug is a beast. Dude is seriously flying under the radar at DT. I think he has or is close to as many sacks as Suh had his rookie year. I know he is leading the team.. which is pretty pathetic when an interior guy is leading in sacks.

You're not lying... An upgrade at the position should be a big offseason priority. Right now, I feel like the positions of need heading into free agency and the draft are almost all defense, except for interior OL. Would love another game breaker at WR, but if that position doesn't get touched, I'll understand.

Improve the pass rush
Improve the interior OL
Improve OLB and S

But I'll gladly delay that conversation until after the Titans have played their last game this season. Hope there is a wild card, but I don't expect it.

Morgan in year two after a knee injury is either going to break out or stay about where he's at. I'm rooting for him to break out.

But yes, the pass rush needs a lot of help.

I think Ayers is going to be a lot better in year two.

Safety well before OLB

...A position that's not mentioned yet debatable is CB; i like the two younger guys (verner and mccourtny)...but just not sure how cut out they are as starter (both have some faults that catch them from time to time)...then again finnegan's also getting older as well

I don't see them resigning griffin or finnegan. Griff is so up and down but I don't know who replaces him. Babs will most likely be resigned. Hope is all but gone. I bet they will draft a db in the first round. Verner and McCourty are gonna have to elevate their game. Never should have let Babin walk. Gonna be interesting. I hope Ayers becomes a playmaker. McCarthy is a stud. Need playmakers at the OLB position.. Like another Keith Bullock

Jim Wyatt just tweeted that Derrick Morgan is the Titans' Ed Block Award recipient. Not a big deal, but the following nugget is interesting: He also said Morgan led the team in QB pressures this year with 19. He only has 2 sacks. I wouldn't have guessed that. Kind of illustrates how poor the defense has been putting pressure on the QB.

Need to find some pass rush in the offseason.

To look at the other end of the spectrum this week, if the titans do not make the playoffs, they currently have the weakest SOS (the draft pick tiebreaker) of all the 7-8 and 8-7 teams. It is currently (before the start of week 17) as follows:

Seattle 7-8 121-119
San Diego 7-8 124-116
Philadelphia 7-8 117-123
Chicago 7-8 128-112
Arizona 7-8 114-136
Tennessee 8-7 112-128
Oakland 8-7 121-119
New York Jets 8-7 118-122
New York Giants 8-7 125-115
Denver 8-7 124-116
Dallas 8-7 113-127

Should the Titans lose to the Texans next week, they would be eligible for at best the 13th pick overall (one of these teams will receive the 12th overall pick, however since Seattle and Arizona play each other this weekend, the Titans can't get said pick).

If such scenario were to end up playing out this weekend it would probably be most beneficial to the titans' draft position for - of these teams - the Cowboys to beat the Giants, Seattle to beat Arizona, and San Diego to beat Oakland. (and of course, Philadelphia and Chicago winning their games this weekend)

I'll look at it more a bit tomorrow or so, but I think the titans' SOS can only vary by about 4 games (2 from Houston, 1 from DEN, 1 from BUF). If correct, then the only teams that could possibly end up with SOS tiebreaker over the Titans would be the Cowboys or the Cardinals

Likely this means a loss to Houston could result in anywhere from a 13th to 18th pick. A win over Houston (and missing the playoffs) could possibly result in anywhere from a 17th to 20th (or so)

Very interesting post. Thanks for putting that together, TO.

So what you're telling us is that there's a silver lining in the event the Titans lose this week? Good to know. However, I will still be rooting for a Titans W on Sunday and will intently be watching the second group of games beginning at 3:15.

Week 1 feels like yesterday...sigh.

Jason Jones doubtful for Sunday. He's the only player not on IR that would miss the game if he can't go. Gerald McGrath is a go.

I feel like all but 1 thing will fall in time place tomorrow unfortunately... and I think it's either going to be us screwing it up versus the Texans or Oakland throwing a wrench into things.. maybe Denver can lose though.

Foster is out, should assure we have a chance late. CJ needs a couple big plays.

Then Denver, Oakland, and Cincy loss?

We have everything to play for. They have nothing to play for. This is pathetic so far
