I keep seeing a few guys harping on the execution and turnover situations, suggesting that those things are solely on the players, not the coach.
Except that teaching players to execute consistently and make fewer mistakes is what the coach does for the 5 days a week that aren't gamedays.
Very few players come to college already knowing it all; when you see teams with very little talent still making the tourney and frequently upsetting much more talented teams, it's because the coach has taught them they can still compete with those more talented teams if they avoid shooting themselves in the foot... sound fundamentals and good decision-making are taught by a coach.
UT actually averages fewer TO's per game than UF does, and has one of the best averages in all of DI ball... you rank #34 in the nation and #1 in the SEC in fewest TO's per game, with 10.6 per game.
But the fans who are complaining about players missing point blank shots have a point; if your players are missing a lot of layups and dunks, it's time for a refresher course in fundamental basketball... that's coaching.
I also think it's a bizarre habit to repeatedly call timeouts after you've just hit a big 3, especially in your own house... why on Earth would you quiet the 15,000 fans who just jumped out of their seats and ice your own hot shooter? Sorry, but that's just stupid. You ALWAYS want to parlay that 3-ball momentum into a big defensive stop and a chance at another 3 with the guy who's suddenly feeling it... I've never seen another coach slow his own team's roll like that.
