The Official Tennessee vs. #3 Florida Game Thread, 7:00pm ET, ESPN

Did you watch the game? Davis got in the game, what did he do while he was in there?

Did he play Maymon minutes and have 8 TO's? Did you watch the game? Getting 4-5 min isn't going to get him comfortable, up to speed, in a rhythm, or whatever you want to call it. To even have an opportunity to contribute he's going to have to receive some significant minutes. I'm sorry I dissed Maymon after he signed your poster and became your favorite Vol.

Maymon fumbled a wide open pass from Stokes. The play was for Stokes. Maymon tried to make a pass to Stokes in the lane, and it was terrible. Maymon missed a wide open layup. Ok, maybe I would agree if you put Reese in. But Reese doesn't make the defensive plays that kept us in the final 5 minutes. It is easy just to say it, but execution, execution, execution. Simple.

I keep seeing a few guys harping on the execution and turnover situations, suggesting that those things are solely on the players, not the coach.

Except that teaching players to execute consistently and make fewer mistakes is what the coach does for the 5 days a week that aren't gamedays.

Very few players come to college already knowing it all; when you see teams with very little talent still making the tourney and frequently upsetting much more talented teams, it's because the coach has taught them they can still compete with those more talented teams if they avoid shooting themselves in the foot... sound fundamentals and good decision-making are taught by a coach.

UT actually averages fewer TO's per game than UF does, and has one of the best averages in all of DI ball... you rank #34 in the nation and #1 in the SEC in fewest TO's per game, with 10.6 per game.

But the fans who are complaining about players missing point blank shots have a point; if your players are missing a lot of layups and dunks, it's time for a refresher course in fundamental basketball... that's coaching.

I also think it's a bizarre habit to repeatedly call timeouts after you've just hit a big 3, especially in your own house... why on Earth would you quiet the 15,000 fans who just jumped out of their seats and ice your own hot shooter? Sorry, but that's just stupid. You ALWAYS want to parlay that 3-ball momentum into a big defensive stop and a chance at another 3 with the guy who's suddenly feeling it... I've never seen another coach slow his own team's roll like that.

No. He played 9 minutes and had 1 TO and 1 RB, no points. Honestly, he looked scared, I watched him.

I guess ZJC with 33,000+ posts is a crazy, idiot too.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. Stokes was a beast tonight, and other than his free throws, played a really solid game. His offensive game tonight was impressive and he owned Patric Young on both ends.

AJ Davis fumbled a wide open layup. Love how people think its so easy. I have been critical of coaching scheme, but tonight players just failed to make plays. Too many missed opportunities.

Love how people have witnessed a complete $hit-show going on 3 yrs now and still grasp at anything to defend CCM. When you're paid $1.3mil the state of the program's success or failure is on you and your staff and y'all's alone. The program has not only failed to improve in 3 yrs, at times it appears to have regressed.

Your point doesn't make sense about execution when it involves a 5th year senior who had a 34 point, 22 rebound game two and a half years ago. At one point, he was taught and knew how to play ball. I don't mind the criticism about the offense, about what defense to play, about calling timeouts or lack thereof, but the many of the failures tonight were as a result of poor execution. Maymon with 8 turnovers, and they weren't because he was doing something he was coached to do. They were dropped passes- fundamentals you learn in the 3rd grade. Maymon missed a layup, Richardson missed a dunk. Thompson missed a fast break layup, and luckily, Stokes was their for the rebound. These are fundamental plays that basketball players do to win games. It is akin to a football coach drawing up a play to get a WR open, and he drops the pass or the QB overthrows it. Tonight, and I repeat tonight, out players were in a position to win the game, and they failed to do so. Sure, just pile it on if you want to. That is the easy thing to do.

I love how I have said coaching has been a problem yet this game was different and people still say this. Don't understand how you have to be on one side or the other.

Again, he had 6 points and 5 fouls and 1 diving play where he was on baseline and refs missed the call.

He wasn't on the baseline before or during contact with the ball.

Besides, being overly critical of any individual player on UF's team is irrelevant. UF's team is much greater than the sum of its parts. Our players compliment each other.

For as great as Stokes is, Maymon more than cancelled him out tonight.

But sure...let's focus on what a gigantic stiff Patric Young is. :good!:

He had 6 points, 6 boards and 5 fouls. Young will never be a scorer. That's not his game. He played ok tonight. Stokes played pretty good. Maymon's turnovers killed us.

Thank Bruce.

My point was not about the quality of UF's basketball team. It was merely that we've watched Patric Young for 4 years and he has always been overrated IMO and never lived up to the hype.

No doubt. Maymon hurt us tonight and he was an offensive liability.

Sucks for UF I guess...he had to stick around for all four seasons.

What a joke Patric Young is...

Thank Bruce.

I'll thank the UT administration, who thought overpaying for an inexperienced, mid-major coach was the way to go. This has nothing to do with Bruce. He's little more than a motivational salesmen who's shine was starting to wear off towards the end and I'd be surprised if he had us in any better position than what we are now.

Stokes and McRae are UT's primary scorers.

Best case Young is our 3rd option.

Fla is so good that they don't need Young to be that good. That's the beauty in that team. They're pretty solid everywhere and I'll be somewhat surprised if they don't make it to the Final 4.

Free throw shooting and offensive droughts could do us in before the Final Four.

I don't know if there's a better team in the country than UF on the defensive end.
