Analysis: Turnovers and defense are key things that The Citadel will need to work on this year if theyre going to improve on Coach Driesells three-year record of 24-68. Theyll also have to replace the scoring of senior forward Mike Groselle, the lone bright spot of a 8-22 team one season ago. A few other players have transferred, which opened up a few scholarships, but the Citadel projects to be rather young when they start the season. Their zone defense has been getting lit-up by fellow SoCon opponents, and when the opponents missed on the defensive end, theyve had trouble grabbing the rebounds. Because of this, Driesell has opted for more size in the recruiting class, but how much of a difference those freshman make, and how quick theyre able to fill Groselles gap in the paint will likely tell the story. In year #4, most coaches see incredible improvement from the first three seasons, Im just not sure it happens here. PG Marshall Harris does return, who led the SoCon in assists last year, but you have to figure a lot of those came in dump-downs to Groselle. Not looking good.
