The Official Tennessee vs Clemson Regional Game Thread (Sat. 6/3 6PM EST ESPN2)

Kind of hard to overstate the importance and quality of that win. Clemson is coming off 17 straight wins. Grice had only lost to Wake Forest, in April. He threw the best eight innings I’ve seen this year. He was the best player on the field even after he moved to 1st. We beat a team that many analysts picked as a top contender to win the CWS. Our defensive play and defensive decision-making was the best of the season. It was a very well-coached game, and the confidence in pitching changes was very solid. Our bats were better than stats show. We had a lot of good contact that didn’t pay off, and often with men on base. Great performances from the mound. My only criticism is that Dolly has a very predictable scout when his pitch count gets over 80. That bad inning was avoidable. We have to be a step ahead of the scout. The clutch hitting from Zane with two outs was a life moment for him, and a serious confidence builder for the team. Our pen’s pitching, and our pitch calls were A+. That was a program defining win. That said, Clemson is still in. Stats favor us based on pitching and rest, but they are a very strong team. Hats off to Grice who may be the best all around player I’ve seen this year. I hope we can keep our composure and continue to play good situational opponent strategy. That game last night was one for the ages. Let’s hope we don’t take anyone lightly. The lesson of Notre Dame last year is a good one. Mature teams know how to keep the pressure on without losing composure. We did that last night beyond any expectation. Let’s win and get to play at home again.

I’m an idiot. I’ll admit it. I’ll take my lumps for questioning the Burns decision and “not saving him”. I should have believed it would all work out and I didn’t, so that’s embarrassing and I deserve it.
You’re a stand up guy Mookiemonster. At least you have the character to say you might have been wrong. I can respect that……

Every coaching decision will have one or two outcomes, it’s either right or wrong and it’s the execution that will determine the hero or goat. In baseball, there will be more goats than heroes, that’s just the game…..

They said on the broadcast that the slope is much shorter than it used to be because they moved the fences in. Also, the reason for the slope is because apparently they didn’t like the look of the traditional warning track. Seems like brilliant decision making.

Thanks. Clemson's own CF stumbles running down this hr

Time to take a nap and then watch our Vols.

How is Clemson’s starting pitcher and bullpen compared to the Vols? I know we have the advantage but I am not aware of Clemson’s roster.

Thanks! GO VOLS!

I stayed away from the thread during the game, which is good, you probably would have had to ban me. Thanks for the time stamp, went back to page 30. You're right, comedy gold.

yes
for obvious reasons I have shied away for frequenting game threads during the game day for most of the past two seasons ...
but I do stumble into dugout quite frequently

just curious if you know anyone that can recall Vol rosters between 1966 and 1972
ok with most of 1970s since my younger brother (a season ticket owner) spent the decade going from frat house, to LNS, and on to Cumberland

Ha, no I’m okay. This is an opportunity for personal growth and I just need to teach myself to be less reactionary. I think I’m going to just take a beat tonight and watch the game without my phone anywhere near me. 😅
Sounds like a good idea. I should probably do that too. 😅
