The Official Tennessee vs LSU CWS Game Thread (Tues. 6/20 7PM EST ESPN)

We replaced 8 position players and lost a TON of talent to Major League Baseball. We finished as a Top Six team in America. We looked adversity in the eyes on many occasions this year. We persevered throughout all the challenges. Well done, players.
Tony did a great coaching job this season of keeping the team focused, but next year is going to be big not as good as 22 but should be in the area or maybe I'm expecting to much

One last comment about Omaha, I was really impressed with the guy managing the press conferences. I mean, obviously he does it a ton and knows the best way to manage the teams and media, but every presser I've listened to .... he did a really good job interacting with the coach and players. He just seemed like a genuinely nice guy who cares about the players.

It seems to me our batters were mind f’d by the umpire calling strikes out of the strike zone. We swung at bad pitches a lot out of fear they would have been called strikes. If Ensley walked with the bases loaded that inning with Dickey up next the game could have played out very different.
He was also up 2 balls 0 strikes after the Ahuna double in the 5th, with neither ball even close. then swung at borderline pitch #3 for a pop up to right. Take that, maybe work a walk with Dickey up bases loaded, who knows!!!!

Agreed. I thought the swing was too aggressive and let dude off the hook. That said, I'm not privy to the game plan.

But you wanna talk stupid, ORU vs TCU. Inning one. Dude couldn't find the plate for nothing. Not close of four balls to the first batter. Only one strike on 3-0 down the middle. Second batter swings at first pitch. Fly ball out. Seriously? You could see the pitcher settle down thereafter. Double play. ORU lost right there, I firmly believe.

Yep. For this lineup of bats to reach Omaha was borderline miraculous. Got zero complaints about this season....ZERO. One helluva year IMO and the loss yesterday doesn't dampen that feeling one iota. We need bats, a catcher and yes, pitching. Can never have too much pitching.
Got to reload every year in all sports with the transfer portal draft and graduation. TV had to make a choice offense or defense. That's not an easy task, so many errors earlier in the year he decided defense which did get better. These young guys that could hit will be better at defense next year. Proud how they fought to get as far as they did. Too many people throwing players under the bus. They do everything at the best of there ability and much better at everything than any of the complainers. GBO

And while we’re at it we might as well get a David Ortiz type of DH and a Cal Ripken Jr. type of SS. Maybe even a Mike Trout type of CF.
Yeah that's just to easy 😉 TV just wants player's he can coach up . It's amazing some so called fans think it's that easy like coach can get anyone he wants. Replacing your entire starting lineup in one year is tuff decision making. Think TV will have another really good team next year, can't wait to see how it pans out.

In general, our hitters seemed to be taking an overly aggressive approach yesterday which might have been the game plan but it certainly didn’t work out this time and LSU executed their pitching plan to perfection.

Dickey had a moment where it was 2 on 2 outs and had Ackenhausen on the ropes and Jay Johnson came out to chat and I’m sure he told his pitcher that Dickey likes to swing away with men on so throw him some high heat and induce a pop up. Well, sure enough that’s what happened. Looked like Dickey was going to swing no matter what.

It is what it is and hindsight is always 20/20 but it certainly felt like there were several big moments yesterday where if we had been more patient at the plate the game would have been much different.

But it was just braindead stupid to bring Halverson in for 3 pitches and then take him out. The runners were on base when SH came in.

Sewell had almost no margin for error and it seemed to mess with his head. He looked scared out there.

It seemed that we had a different approach to the hitting game last night. We were swinging for the fences with the wind blowing in and even if we hit the ball well, it was going to be a long out. Monday night, we put the ball in play and had over ten hits and scored enough runs to win. Why did not go for the base hits like we did Monday?
Regardless, I am extremely pleased with the way our team improved over the year. We were play with a really young team and had eight new starters replacing last years starters. The team grew as the season progressed and were a very good team at the end of the season. The base is set for a very good season next year. We still need an upgrade at catcher, defensively as well as offensively. Overall I am very optimistic about our future.

Yes. There was nothing really new there last night. Left handers mixing low 90's, with lots of breaking stuff in dirt. We just never found an answer to that this year.

CTV is recruiting too many left hand bats. Embarrassing when you have to twice pinch-hit left hand batters for righties against left hand pitching.

But, he will learn from it in recruiting and correct.

UT doesn’t need a hitting coach. Just let the pitching coach work with the hitters…..his guys did great last night.
