I don’t think it’s real just a funny coincidence

It's not even that. It's just logical. He always comes to big games. It's just that we have sucked hard for nearly 1.5 decades. Nearly every big opponent in that period has wiped the floor with us, PM or not. Never hear anyone whining @ him showing up in Memphis for #1 v #2 and we took our 1st #1 ranking in school history.
Unfortunately there are always numbskulls who are gonna buy into this crap. How @ orange helmets? 🙄

Skenes is a great pitcher, no question about it, but it seemed the umpire gave him a little bit more strike zone than Lindsey. Anyone else think so, or was it just my prejudiced view?

The guy had a big strike strike zone, especially on the outer part. For most part, I thought he stayed somewhat consistent with it being a wide zone.

The problem, that favored Skenes more than our guys. If that guy was umpiring Dollander, it would perhaps help us. It helps anyone throwing 100+ but not so great with accuracy. Ben Joyce would like that ump.

With that he said, I think he would also sometimes took the bait of the 'catcher jumping up and running to dugout' type of tricks.

Overall. not a great umpire.

Both in college softball and baseball, the umpire quality is not generally very great. Softball is worse than baseball.

The best young umpires in baseball are working minor league pro ball trying to eventually land a cushy MLB union job.

All of that is just in my opinion... I do not think any of them are trying to shaft any specific team.

Had the strike zone been called as it was all year we would have chased him in the 5 or 6th inning. Advantage LSU we can afford to throw more pitches. Seems what ever helps the other team that's just what they do. He probably had 6 or 8 called strike off the plate at critical points. Either way GBO 💥

It seems like they use umpires that are close to retirement in college baseball.

What are the rules (if there are any) about how soon a starter can pitch again in college ball? Just wondering if we end up seeing LSU again if we would possibly have to face him again

No rules. Just up to coach on how ethic it is to throw a kids arm off.

If would guess that he will go again on Thursday if LSU is still in the tourney. Doubt they are still around.

I would not say average without him. They are beatable but far from average.

Ok. I will agree with that. Their team is very good.

I'm heavily discounting them for having sub-par pitching depth.

But, they do have the talent to win some 10-8 score type of games.

I just think both Florida and Wake Forrest have much more pitching coupled with the fielding / hitting talent.

LSU has the most tradition and fan support of the field this year.

I agree 💯 with you. We are just talking about the best teams this year. No one sucks. No one is average.

No matchup is ideal in Omaha. Our boys need a break out game to stay alive.

While that’s true, Tennessee is getting the two worst possible matchups in its first 2 games. Most teams are getting the other team’s #2 in their 2nd game. We just got the best pitcher in America, followed by the best LHP in America because Stanford threw its #2 the first game.

There is a chasm of space between “ideal” and “worst possible matchup.”

I think Florida has the best overall team due to pitching depth and an outstanding lineup. But with Skenes pitching, LSU is the best team in America and it isn’t particularly close.

I haven't seen Wake Forrest enough to judge.

But, I do believe that observation.

With that said, I do think they will lose the next two games and go home. Not enough pitching. We will see...

Oftentimes, ones who umpire a long time in Double AA and Triple AAA but didn't quite make the cut for MLB.

Baseball is better than NCAA softball. Those umps on strike zones are maddening.

The one behind the plate last night is relatively young but was terminated as a MLB umpire in 2014. So, the NCAA takes the rejects.

As for the umpire, he definitely had a larger zone than any of the SEC umps we’ve seen this year. Overall, was he more favorable to Skenes than to our guys? Hard to say, although I do think he gave Skenes a bunch of high strikes that our hitters were used to letting go for balls during the SEC and regional games. Our pitchers mostly threw a lot of sinker balls and very few (that I can recall) high strikes. Very few of our “low” pitches were called strikes, which may be why those of us with orange colored glasses felt like Skenes was getting the favorable calls. I do think his zone got a little larger for Skenes in the later innings.

For our hitters, I thought this was another one of those games where some of our guys actually made good contact a few times, but they always seemed to be right at someone. Not sure why LSU didn’t play the shift against us like most of our other SEC opponents, but it seemed to work in their favor several times. Dickie’s hard liner in the first might have been an RBI double down the line if their 3rd baseman had shifted over a little. Skenes didn’t hang many pitches, and when he did our guys couldn’t do anything with them. The LSU hitters definitely launched a few of our hangers.

It got close last night. If the count had gone full on Moore like it should have the bleachers on the LSU side would’ve been stained with Jell-O shots. Remember we had a guy in the pen who can spin it too.
