The Official Tennessee vs. Texas A&M Game Thread, 6:30 PM ET, SEC Network

I’m sorry, but this team is hot garbage. ZERO leadership. If Folky is our top scorer, we will not even sniff the NIT. JJJ is a complete bust at this point.

Have some pride, guys. Good grief that was pathetic.
I know the bball teams is not as talented as they were last year but JJJ is not a bust at all.

Um....what?
Barnes say he don't know why they played that way. That was Scooby Do speak, just dint know how to spellit.
I said the same thing after we beat South Carolina. They didn't look like a Rick Barnes team and he don't know why. So is he losing it or not.

Or he's being honest. Just because he's a veteran coach doesn't mean he always has all the answers.

I mean I don't think Barnes has the ability to see into Bowden's brain why he can't be consistent. And if they are doing things in practice and aren't in games, at some point you just have to say "I dont' know". I guess it's better than saying "they suck". There is only so much a coach can do before the players have to perform, and perhaps Barnes has hit that limit with the players. I know there's a segment of this fanbase that doesn't want to hear that, but it's the truth like or not.

Not making excuses, Lord knows I am not a Barnes guy, but he has been going through some trouble off of the court over the past few days.

That’s when you know you’ve got a loser team. I
I accepted the talent drop from last season and knew we wouldn't be very good this year. My thought was 16-18 wins. Told my self that as long as the team battled, I'd support them win or lose.

Not sure what the deal was last night, but when you allow yourself to be obliterated on the glass, that is all about effort. Rebounding and defense don't have "off nights". Rebounding is all about "want to". We just didn't have the want to last night. Now, it might have been fatigue or maybe they were all satisfied with their showing vs KU. Don't know, but if what happened last night continues, I think this team will lose support.
think you are right, I think they were proud of themselves for only getting beat by a few against KU. When the players start hanging there hats on moral victories you mine as well hang it up for the season.

With all due respect, by today’s standards, 5 star players are most likely to be one-and-done type performers. JJJ looks more like a project than a NBA player.

I think that statement is pretty inaccurate, especially when trying to lump all 5 stars together...look at see how many ranked 15-25 are one and done each year.

Meanwhile Pearl is leading Auburn to another special year while making half the pay of Barne$.
I guess if one of the blue bloods decide to hire Pearl then Auburn will have to step up with more cash or let him walk. UT wasn’t giving Barnes his salary without the UCLA offer.

You’ve obviously never coached an athletic team. Some times you can beat a point to death in practice then when the lights on at the speed of a real game some players will revert to what’s instinctual. Nothing a coach can do besides sit them and keep pounding the point in practice. Hard to sit our top guys with inexperienced freshmen on the bench

My coaching experience is very limited. However Mr Barnes has been doing it for 33 years. And Barnes has sat his players before knowing it would produce losses, just to make a point. Now after games it's: Vescovi needs to bring the ball up faster, We had 4 offensive rebounds, We're passing the ball around the perimeter and not working for shots. And he doesn't know why?

How come people don’t understand this?

Many thought JJJ would come in and average 20 a game because some people did not know what type of player he was coming out of HS. The guy is facilitator first and scorer second. I believe CRB is molding JJJ into an NBA player in the future and with CRB’s history of development, I am confident. He is farther along than Bone or Turner were as freshman & has higher upside IMO. Does he make mistakes? Sure, however, once he develops a consistent jumper and knows when to be aggressive on offense, watch out. My 2 cents.

time to quit blaming refs for all our losses. That's a dead horse. Bad calls go both ways, we are just seeing them in orange glasses. Refs are bad, period.

@Lankykong calling you a fool here was out of line and my emotions getting the best of me. I was frustrated by the lose. I apologize for the name-calling.

I re-watched the game and while I still am more upset at our play, I also believe this officiating crew should be at least reprimanded for how bad they were.
Thanks, I appreciate it. I respect you as a poster and enjoy your thoughts.

I definitely was overly emotional in the game thread, so I understood why you felt that way looking back at it (and totally understand getting a bit carried away, hahaha).

If CRB could discover the technique in coaching players such that they all could follow the game plan and bring 100% of the practice instruction to the live action in games then he’d be making $50 mil a year. No coach has ever figured this out. It’s a process they strive for yet never fully reach. Listen to Belicheck or Saban after poor performances - they have the same narrative as CRB on players not executing the game plan as designed

I agree and most drive-by sports fans read the headline UT signs a 5 star. These same drive-by's watch a UK game and hear about 1 and done 5 stars. They listen to Vitale & his diaper dandy garbage and think it's that easy. "We got a 5 star that's gonna be All SEC", They don't hear about the likes of 5 star Kahil Whitney and others that transfer out and are not 1 and done. They just think 5 star is magic dust.
