The Official Tennessee vs. Xavier Game Thread, 9:00pm ET(11/12/13), FOXS1

Xavier will be ranked now. It won't surprise me if they get into the top #10 in rankings two weeks from now because of Stainbrook in the paint. Stainbrook reminds me of Cole Aldrich who would always block shots and score with no effort lol.

I did not see your lol, for a minute I thought you were serious.

I guess I'm not in as big a panic as everyone else. Only thing I'm taking from this game is we can't go 7-19 from the FT line again

I'm more concerned our bigs can't handle length. Maymon and Stokes take up space but taller defenders cause them to alter shots too severely.

Maymon looked a little rusty today, but at least he didn't foul himself out of the game, letting him get 10 rebounds. Maybe if Stokes had done the same we wouldn't have lost the rebound battle by (I think) double digits. I'm disappointed with Stokes' game, I don't think he can really play against players who are 6'10" or above, and that seems bad for an NBA prospect. Barton prolly needed the exhibition games. Our freshman looked like freshman - missing easy layups and going too fast in an away game, aside from Thompson. First half defense on their center and free throws killed us. We haven't adjusted to the new foul calls and let perimeter players blow by us for easy layups or post fouls when we did.

On the bright side, Richardson and McRae both looked good on offense, and Pops wasn't lost when he played, just unable to hit free throws. Chievous isn't dead/kicked off the team. We kind of forced more turnovers than usual. Cuonzo adjusted to their center killing us in the second half, even though he still kinda killed us.

I thought Thompson looked decent- I like his game. Barton will be steady and very good from three- much better than Golden. Maymon just needs some time to get back in it. Stokes will have to adjust to new rules. Unfortunately players will flop and use his body against him. McRae should be the first option every time or at least post the bigs and let McRae flash.

Just who the h-ll do we run this offense through? Anyone else tired of watching guys running at the basket and throwing up wild ass shots. They should know better by now. Only the teams we play hit their wild ass off balance shots..

We can run it through our post players when they aren't playing against guys significantly taller than them, but today reminded me of some of Maymon's games two years ago where he got his shot blocked because he's short for a post. Other than that, he's great, but he's too short against tall centers.

Stokes has the same problem, but it's less magnified for him. His issue is not fouling the tall, faster guys.

Still, I think we lost this game because of game 1 jitters at the FT line and guys not being used to foul calls, etc. more than our actual players' deficiencies. We'll go on a crazy SEC winning streak again just like we have the last few years. Also, McRae's gonna be SEC POY if we pass the ball to him.

Agree with all of this, especially when our bigs aren't obviously better than their competition. McRae is crazy good and wins basically every matchup.

I hope we get these guys again in the B for A. It's true of course, if we don't dramatically improve from the line, we'll lose to most of the quality opponents we play this year. I think there was some gelling going on in that 2nd half, and I suspect this is not representative of how we'll play going forward. I think Barton is going to be effective at the point and start to open up the inside more with his 3 point threat, but sheesh, Jarnell's got to get the fouling & three point shooting under control. I could feel worse. We played our first game tonight against a good team that doesn't lose much at home, and if we'd shot even a little in the first half, we'dve probably won by double digits. I'm no apologist, but I see the potential.

Listening to CCM on the radio helps me understand what the problem is with the way we come out so flat every game. This guy is Barry White. He probably puts the team to sleep with his voice in the locker room.

We need go be more aggressive on O the way they call fouls now. Good experience at the game tonight. Wish we pulled off the W.
