The Official Thread of the 77th NFL Draft (2012)

Not gonna happen. I've been listening to WFNZ in Charlotte all week as well as following every Panthers insider on twitter. It's going to be Coples, Cox, or Keuchly if we pick at 9.
I've seen lots of rumors about the Pats wanting to trade up with the Panthers. I'd be pretty upset if they screwed us again. The Armanti Edwards trade still hurts.

I thought people were saying - were the pats to move up - it'd be to 11 at the highest

I bet they'd have to throw in a 5th, or something else like that. Even then, no. I'd rather have an elite talent at 9 than two almost second round guys at 27 and 31.

Claiborne to the Vikes is my prediction, as well, unless they trade back.

What are the chances they shock everyone and draft Tannehill with the pick?

Unlikely, but let's be fair it'd be kinda funny...partly because only one team would be really screwed up by that pick (Dolphins)

So it'd kinda be like sticking their tongues out at them

It would not surprise me if they took him there or traded back. By the way, I don't think he should be taken any where in the first round.

Imo it depends on who else is on the board. If someone really high has fallen that far i say no. I think its a bit of a reach and if we cant get DeCastro i think we should address the front seven

DeCastro is pretty close to a can't-miss. If you're willing to spend a Top 20 pick on an interior OL, he better be can't-miss or damn close. I don't think Glenn is. DeCastro is the only OL that justifies the Titans 1st Round pick. I wouldn't think they would pass over him if he falls to them, but he probably won't.

they have needs elsewhere on offense though...I'm not sure whether it'd be the wisest move

And maybe, I could definitely understand him being a mid to late round pick, but as far as a top 10 pick though, no...the dolphins having to take him per need though is pretty much what makes it understandable

Also apparently the browns are very big on trying to get Brandon Weeden in the 2nd or 3rd round

Not sure what's surprising you there

I'm interested to know if it's a team's real assessment of 1st round draft grades (and priority level for trading up/down) before the draft. If it is real, it's a really interesting leak. Some interesting omissions on there, if so.

There is some interesting and "surprising" stuff in there. No QBs (actually not surprising), no DeCastro, no Gilmore, no Blackmon, no Claiborne, Cordy Glenn at T (not G), no Konz, Amini Silatolu a 1st round grade, etc. No Kalil, no Reiff. No Kuechly. No Coples.

So, yeah, some surprising stuff if you take a look at it.

Interesting question they raised on NFLN a few minutes ago. "Has Cam Newton raised the bar for rookie QBs to an unrealistically high level?"

No Mark Barron or Trent Richardson (of course they have no RB need), either. This has got to be in the context of whom they believe will be available when they pick at 26, but that seems like a questionable tactic.

Alone - no

Combined with the early/first year successes of players like Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, Andy Dalton, (and even Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow to some degrees) - perhaps

(by successes here, referring to both playoff appearances as well as statistically)
