2 weeks and potentially a couple of games of speculation to go.

Wiedmer offers a perspective.
But Peterman can do more than manage. He can make all the throws -- at least he did Saturday -- including what was probably the best completion of the night by any QB. That was a 48-yard bullet down the middle of the field to Devrin Young from the offense's own 2-yard line.

Said one observer of the Vols' first two weeks of practice: "We haven't seen a throw like that all month."

But Coleman also said the following, a fact that no Vol privately would deny.

Asked whether Worley or Peterman threw the better ball, the junior defender swiftly said, "I definitely think Peterman had more zip. But he should: He has more arm strength."

In the SEC, you need zip and arm strength. Everything else being relatively equal, the Vols would appear to need Peterman as their starting quarterback 13 days from today.

Not trying to turn up eflames on Worley but we can probablly all agree any Junior with SEC experience who hasn't earned the coaches head nod 2 weeks before the opener has placed himself in a precarious place for earning and keeping the top spot.
Even if Worley is solidly the starter we have controversy at the backup spot regardless. In the SEC you need a game ready backup to be successful.

Since when did it become a "controversy"?? We've got 4 great guys fighting for the starting job. Pretty good position to be in I think. Doesn't a controversy usually involve something nefarious or negative? Haven't seen anything like that so far, certainly don't expect to. :hi:

I think it fits.
prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of conflicting opinion or point of view

You can find fans on this board that would lean towards any of the 4 QB's as our best option.

I was at the open practice last night and in my opinion Peterman should be the starter. He is more mobile than Worley and he looked more accurate with his throws.

Well your controversy will be over when the coach names the starter.

In one regard it could although if that starter struggles it doesn't mean the debate would end. Butch could also play several guys in the first couple games too, prolonging the speculation.

Simms does have a noodle arm. I also said that if zip was all that mattered, Bray would be the GOAT. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

We have 4 decent quarterbacks and no named starter. 1 has experience and has not separated himself. Seems like a valid thing to discuss while we wait on the opener.

A few years ago Simms greatly outplayed Bray in the Orange and White game. Don't let one scrimmage convince you that Peterman is a better QB. He might be, but to base it on a scrimmage is pretty silly.
