The official UT QB controversy thread

There was a poll on here yesterday where the question was Dobbs or Ferguson. Ferguson was winning 2-1. It was like a high school beauty contest where everyone was voting for his girlfriend and ignoring the prettiest girl in class. It was absolute proof that VN is full of neophytes who don't have the slightest idea of what they are seeing. The most we have to go on are HS senior highlight videos. If both QBs had to option break the same 20yd play and run; you could tie an anvil on Dobbs leg and he would still get there first. Nobody on here obviously knows how to count ticks between the lines while watching one of these videos. Also in HS Dobbs played against beefier players. This too is visible to the eye if the pros here weren't voting for their girlfriend. All in all, if a freshman starts, it's more than likely going to be Dobbs. He brings more natural talent.

So you do know who the better quarterback is? Or are you butt hurt cause Dobbs is your girlfriend (figuratively)

Listen to the Dobbs homer calling out the Ferguson homers. Lol

FTR and it pains me some to say it get your mind ready for Worley or Peterman. Those Freshman very very likely won't see the field at the swamp. By the account I read the Freshman watched on the sidelines and the "veterans" both took snaps.

I was hoping we would not have a QB controversy. I guess that ship sailed Saturday.

Why are people so against Peterman? Butch recruited him at Cincy and he looks pretty decent to me so far. He also has a year's experience on the team. Seems like he should get the next shot at QB. I would much rather try Nate than a true freshman first.

I think most fans predicted Worley would not finish the season at QB. Clearly he did not impress in either of his 2 years of getting limited action.

For me it was his TD free performance against AP. I'm not really against him though and I agree he should and will get the next shot. I imagine you'll get what you want and FL game and all the rest will have to wait until USA. The freshman need at least the bye week to have a chance to catch up. Depending of course on how Peterman does.

Ferguson is ahead of Dobbs right now in the competition and that's according to the coaches. If the freshmen get to play Ferguson will get the first shot.

I've never looked into it, has Butch ever run 2 QB's in a game on purpose?

By that I mean a 2 QB situation or alternating series not a please take the bench scenario.

I believe so, I wouldn't mind seeing us try that.. Honestly, I don't care what we try as long as we try something different and keep on till he finds something that works

I'd really rather not see that personally unless he's somehow conceded the game and conducting a final interview so to speak. At this point my preference is to see an actual read option with anyone scrambling for an occassional 4-5 yards. If he wants to give Worley a shot at that so be it but please please let's not continue our faux charade on scheme.

I think rotating two guys that will both keep the ball and run might work. Keep fresh legs and the defense guessing

Now this I could buy. I could even see a coach like Spurrier with less concern for QB mental health having already tossed the Freshman in and playing both. Does anyone remember the year Spurrier played Beecher and like 2 other QB's. Beecher was highly recruited and was from my area of NC. He crashed and burned and transferred I think. Spurrier don't give a flip about that kind of stuff IMO.
Guess who was the third option....Garcia, lulz
What do you know? South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is talking like he might play two quarterbacks this Saturday against No. 2-ranked Georgia.

The Head Ball Coach said at his weekly press conference that he would name a starter later this week, but that there was a good chance both Chris Smelley and Tommy Beecher would play against the Bulldogs. Spurrier said redshirt freshman Stephen Garcia was still not ready and didn't factor into his plans at this point.

Beecher started in the season-opening 34-0 win over North Carolina State, but threw four interceptions and hurt his shoulder. Smelley played the whole way in South Carolina's 24-17 loss to Vanderbilt last Thursday.

"I don't know how else to do it than to get both of them ready," Spurrier said of his two quarterbacks. "Whoever starts the game will have an excellent opportunity to maybe go the distance, and we'll have the other guy ready. Right now, Chris and Tommy are performing sort of evenly. Statistically, Chris is better, but we felt like Tommy potentially can do some things to give us a chance to win the game."

Coaches that coach at the University of Tennessee? You must be the ultimate insider.

Its been stated on this board since the end of fall practice about the reports of Ferguson being ahead of Dobbs. Where have you been?

I think either Worley or Peterman start. The coaches have seen all of them everyday for over a month and the depth chart was Worley as the 1 an Peterman as the 2. If Dobbs or Ferg were really close, I think we would have seen one of them in the first 2 games. I'll let the coaches make the decision and sit back and watch, but I think it is between those 2. My proof? Gut feeling and what the coaching staff has shown me in the first 3 games.

I agree. We will not see Dobbs or Ferg playing QB in Gainesville unless by some miracle we open a substantial lead. As a side note, I'm all in favor of miracles.:salute:

I am really really starting to like this kid and his competitive fire! He just looks and carries himself like a true winner and seems o wear his heart o his sleave....we need a QB wh has that win at all costs attitude that Tebow had at UF...we desperately need that and Riley's has the best arm of the bunch and the best accuracy from what I have seen. I am betting he gets the no this weekend....if we ose...at least we lose preparing for the future....each game Worely starts is a wasted week of practice and game experience for our QB of the fute.

What exactly have you seen?

High School highlights make him seem like a Heisman candidate :)

based on is interviews prep career and what others have said about him...he just seems to have that IT factor that we need at QB...

But no actual current evidence...solid reasoning.
