The Official 'VN, Chattanooga Chapter' Thread

Why is there always stuff burning in Marion County? On the way back from Nashville today there was smoke everywhere as soon as we hit the bottom of Monteagle Mtn. I assumed it was a burning house or bad tractor trailer wreck, but down the interstate I saw two rings of fire (spare the Man in Black comments), one on top of a mountain towards the south and another very near the road. Is this a method clearing the land of plantlife, maybe for development? It just seemed like the mountain location could be so remote there's no paved road to get up there and the one by the road was burning around a small group of trees. And the smoke, like I said, it started at the bottom of Monteagle and was relatively thick all the way through Jasper; it was no neighborhood leaf burning fire. This isn't the only time I've seen heavy smoke in Marion. Does anyone have any insight, cause it was kind of eerie.

thanks dude. today went as well as complete chaos can go. if there was a fire starting at the bottom and going to the top it could be a controlled burn to maybe pit in powerlines or some other type of utilities. that is just a guess. i would have to see what you were talking about to have much more of a logical answer. good to see you around. haven't seen or heard from you much in a while.

blupotato's answer was good. I was gonna say smoke smell covers up meth smell.

i hope i never have to get nuclear clearance ever again. this is becoming a real pain in the arse.

well my TVA training starts in the morning. hopefully, i can pass my nuclear crash course. after this week i start 7pm to 7am, 6 days a week for about a month. keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Do you work at there downtown location? If so i'm just down the street at EPB.

So what's the deal with EPB and cable tv/internet?

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this thread like I should have.

EPB should be starting to roll out FTTH (Fiber to the Home) within the next few months. They have already got it in about 10 houses (workers) that are testing it. They will offer Cable TV, Internet, and Phone for a competitive price with Comcast, I expect it to beat Comcast, but i'm not 100% sure.

The internet should be way faster than comcast and the TV should be clearer.

To my understanding with Fiber, it runs straight into your house. That means you aren't sharing bandwidth with your neighbors/people on your street. You have your own line that runs straight into your house, which is going to speed up the internet and should allow for a clearer picture.

They have setup a demo with the three different TV's at work for the current workers to view. They have a Mitsibishi DLP, Samsung Plasma, and a LG LCD. The Samsung Plasma looks the best, but they still have some improving to do on everything, as it is still in the testing stages. They are supposed to start putting it into homes in mid April, but I see it being delayed at least a month. They haven't hardly hired any new employee's for this job yet. So if you are looking for a job, check out epb.net from time to time in the next couple of weeks, you should see some jobs coming open. To my knowledge they will be hiring at least 50-100 new employee's just for the FTTH.

Yeah, I think Dalton has it as well. We are hiring a lot of people from Dalton Utilities it seems like.

How is it? Who did you have before? Can you tell a big difference?
