It can be July in SoCal and the water is too dang cold to go in w/o a wet suit. I got brain freeze from just walking the edge of the surf in high summer in San Diego.

I lived in Monterey three streets from the beach and only one time did I wade in up to my knees and stood for maybe 20 seconds and the ran out of there, and then the Navy transferred us to Hawaii for two years...Ani I was in the water for two years surfing and swimming
