The Oil Company hose job continues

Move
Change jobs
Work at home
Get a really long friggin' drill and start hammering away in the back yard

BTW, I only recently found out that there is a new "fuel efficient automobile" CREDIT on income taxes. Don't laugh -- it may be up to $2000. Add that to the 50-150% you'll save on gas.

moving back to ohio.
accepted a position closer to home, but now wife has to drive farther.
can't work at home and live.
bought a toyota corrola to help out.
tennessee is just to expensive, can't live in the country anymore unless you are rich like most on this board.

Public utilities are also massively regulated and have to ask the government for approval of any rate increases.

Exactly.

I've wondered if consumers wouldn't be better off if oil companies were nationlized and regulated the same way.

On a sidebar, I'm optimistic that hybrid cars are going to become more popular.

Which mean lithium battery producers will have the capital they need to continue research and development to improve lithium batteries.

Eventually I think a hybrid will be replaced by an all electic car, once the charging time and the capacity improve. I think there might be a real revolution in the car industry in the next 10 years if the battery technology can continue to improve.

not as long as big oil controls the government.

There's no doubt it should be government regulated or even nationalized. Everythng the government sticks its toe in, gets immediately better and is cheaper over the long haul.

Or our fearless loser making his friends billions in the whitehouse.
loser is a bit strong for a guy who's never lost any election of significance. I think he has bungled a couple of issues while in place, but will never conclude his presidency under the cloud of impeachment followed by disbarment. Can't recall which recent democrat left the office under such cloud, but I do know it wasn't very long ago.

W couldn't hold clintons jock:salute: . atleast he didn't start a war he fabricated. much rather have a president getting some personal favors than the devil W.

No your right. The electric companies should all be privatized, I'm sure it would be cheaper.

Utilities are so highly regulated due to the prior need for geographic monopolies to cover start-up costs and distribution costs. Part of the regulation was needed to ensure that ALL homes/businesses receive service (product must be delivered directly to each customer) and that the monopoly power was not abused.

We have already seen some deregulation (and lowering of rates). The expansion of the national energy grid allows new types of providers the ability to buy and resell without local production.

The gasoline industry is much more distributed and has many more competitors; particularly throughout the channel of distribution. There is no mandate to deliver the product to every home. You can start up one gas station if you like or go nationwide. The product is easily distributed throughout the country.

The benefits of utility-type regulation in the gasoline industry are marginal at best.
