The Ole Miss Postgame Report: SEC Tourney edition

I'm pretty sure it was because of out of bounds, but I can't even remember the teams (it was a Big XII game, maybe Texas), so I can't be 100% sure.

It may have been.

Hell the UT interception against Vanderbilt wasn't technically reviewable but they did.

All I was saying is by rule it wasn't reviewable. However, the official could and should have discussed it atleast.

As CCM said I'd like to see that rule change. Maybe last 2 minutes make that reviewable.

Biggest play of the game was the 3 by Mcbee that rattled out with about 3 mins left. If that falls we are talking about tomorrow's game. That's basketball though!

Too many missed lay-ups throughout the game. The bigs were afraid of getting blocked instead of going strong and trying to jam it.

They ate us alive inside when they were on offense. I agree with several posters, better work on a zone. A good zone can help neutralize a stronger team inside. I don't know why you wouldn't play one occasionally just to keep the opponents honest. You are making their jobs easier in the scouting department by tellling everybody you only play man.

And the refs just plain, flat azz, stunk the court up. But what else is new with SEC officiating in all sports.

1. For your NCAA tournament hopes possibly dashed because the officials are too lazy to make sure they have the correct call is ridiculous. Referees over review every single thing late, and how that was not reviewed is ridiculous. Nice to see college officiating still sucks.

2. However, you shoot under 30%, you don't deserve to win. Quite simple.

3. This team's #1 priority is to find a zone offense. It cost them a NCAA berth.

4. Jordan McRae went cold at the wrong time. We needed a driver and he just didn't have it tonight.

5. Went you have the performances offensively from Maymon and Stokes, and somehow force OT, that was a minor miracle.

6. I thought Skylar played well. He kept us alive in OT and gave us a chance to win the game.

7. UT has got to find a capable post player in the offenseason. This is why UT needed Kenny Hall. Keep them off the boards. They got two putbacks buckets when Maymon went out.

8. Overall, a good season. They overachieved and got better. The NIT gives you a chance to get better and prepare for next year. I think everyone would have taken the position we are in two months ago and even at the beginning of the season.

Maymon had 17 boards and Stokes had 11 and we still lost. Tells you about our shooting woes.

I'm all for Martin kicking Hall to the curb. He hurt his team by his selfishness. We could've used him against Bama and tonight when Stokes got in early foul trouble. I could really care less if his selfish ass ever plays for UT again.

This team's weakness is on the wings and it showed yet again tonight. Need some wings to help out our bigs next year.

We'll be good next year. Whether that's good enough to get to the NCAA's remains to be seen, but the team had a golden opportunity and blew it. They'll have awhile to stew about this one.

As bad as UT played offensively, their defense kept them in the game. Still plenty of room for improvement though.

today looked like last years team gettin picked apart by the pick and roll...i said it earlier in the year and want to reiterate it...we could have used a zone tonight and bad...i seriously think even an average played zone woulda stopped ole miss...at least make them hit a couple more jumpers

3. we do need a zone offense, but, when you shoot as poorly as we did an you are still in the game it means the other team is not shooting well either. We needed an answer for their going left into the paint all night long and didn't have one. Unless we develope a good zone defense next year we will have plenty more of this. CCM was taken to the woodshed last night, but, he is learning so I believe we will develope this in time. I watched some of the earlier games in which he was schooled and he quickly learned how to adjust the next time someone tried it. I feel confident we make the tourny next year. GBO

1. Once again, zone bites us. Why every single team we played in the last two months didn't play 40 minutes of zone baffled me. We just have no idea how to attack it. Good job by Kennedy.

2. Martin has got to start at least having a zone defense in his arsenal. It would have worked wonders against Ole Miss, even if only in spurts. 38 points in the paint tells me all I need to know.

3. It can't be stressed enough how undisciplined we were offensively. 34 3's is inexcusable, and to only make 11 is just bad. We only hit 3 2-point baskets in the first half. Amazing that we were tied.

4. Jordan McRae is one of the most enigmatic, bi-polar players in memory. He looks like a world-beater one game, and a borderline D2 player the next. He has to stay aggressive and attack the basket. That is what we missed offensively in a game where we refused or were unable to work the ball in the post.

5. Stokes' worst game in awhile despite his good rebounding effort. His defense was porous. He reached a lot defensively rather than moving his feet to get in position. He is going to be awesome in time, but he was definitely frustrated offensively and he let it effect his defense.

6. Yemi looked abysmal. He needs lots of work. Really felt like he regresssed as the season went on.

Bottom line, you don't beat teams shooting 28%. You don't beat teams getting outscored 38-12 in the paint. You don't beat teams getting outscored 13-1 off turnovers. You don't beat teams when you get zero FGs and 3 FTs from your bench.

It's really difficult to determine how we stayed close. We lost the TO battle, they shot 14% better than us, they had more blocks, they had more steals, FT% and rebounding difference were only marginally in our favor. The only real big statistical shift in our favor was that we hit 11 3's and they hit 2.

guys why did we not try to go inside more,it was like all they were doing were shooting from outside the three point line???

Inexperienced PG and a lack of patience by the entire team. This will be corrected in Cuonzo 102.
I'm still satisfied with Cuonzo 101 though.
