i really dislike how they make this to be a one hour show, but in all its only 30 minutes

at least we know the start of next week should have some immediate action without as much backstory fluff.

I agree the past two episodes were slow and disappointing. But wow, the battle scene this week was intense.

And yes, when you take out the intro and the ending credits it's more like 42 minutes rather than an hour.

I'm looking forward to the next episode. I watched part of the airfield scene in a sneak peek and it was crazy.

pretty intense episode. i still am just having trouble really liking this show. some of the acting is just awful. Not nearly as good as BOB in my opinion. Ill still watch though

Agreed about the cheese acting in spots. Definitely gives you a few of those "Oh, here comes another one of THOSE speeches" moments.

Last night's episode was really good, though. Powerful stuff, not watered down with dialogue.

Probably why I lost all interest.

I was all pumped about it, but I have seen 1 and a half episodes, and it is basically crap except for the battle scenes. It can't pull the lint out of Band of Brother's butt crack.

sundays episode was one of the best id say. had some awesome action, some good dialogue, and tom hanks managed to successfully sneak in the realities of war idea hes been pushing for the whole series. i hope next weeks doesnt suck

Next week's episode is the finale.

And I actually enjoy the whole Thin Red Line feel of the series. I thought that was a great movie.

Watched the first 3 episodes, need to finish it up. Just couldn't get into it near as much as BOB.

I will give you that, BoB was superior. However, it also has to be in the conversation for best TV miniseries of all time. IMO it was the best war movie/show ever made. Pretty lofty standards. You have to let this show stand on its own, and when you do, it's pretty darn good.

I agree. BoB is at the top for me. I actually enjoyed the first three eps of The Pacific. I have to watch it online though so I just haven't gotten around to it. If I had HBO I would be caught up on it.

I agree the acting isn't nearly as good as BoB, but one has to think there's a bias generated by the fact that TP just wasn't the first of these types of miniseries to air. We've seen it with similar direction, storytelling, and production before. It's just going to feel a little rehashed, and in essence, it is.

But I find myself glued to it every week. I could really watch a miniseries like this yearly as if it were just a seasonal drama.

Opening self up for ridicule, and yes I'll admit that the acting has been weaker and cheesier than BoB, but gotta admit....teared up just a bit in the finale.

i enjoyed it. it just is not fair to compare it to band of brothers, because if that was the bar, than there may not be a war series that could truly top it. the pacific had some cheesey moments? yes. Did it have some actors that really were not that good? yes. But I was impressed with the jurassic park kid and how he played the role of sledge. he did a good job and it was a joy to see his progression through the series. there were some truly horrific scenes that he nailed. same goes for lecky. i thought he was fantastic all the way through. some of the battle scenes i actually thought were more impressive than band of brothers. i guess my biggest gripe with the pacific was just the feel of it being much shorter than band of brothers. i would have liked to see 2 hour episodes or even 1.5 hour episodes and not a 50 minute episode that is chopped down because of the intro and the credits. i just felt like there could have been more. that theater of war had a lot of battles and it just seemed way too fast in terms of switching to the next island of battle. if that makes sense at all. there could have been a little less drama episodes and more batlle time, but the ending justifies some of that. all in all i am happy that hbo took the time to invest and give us another series such as band of brothers to follow. i will certainly purchase the pacific when it comes out on disc.

Answered the question I was going to ask, thanks. I really liked Band of Brothers, and since I missed the first couple of episodes, I have intentionally avoided the rest of the Pacific.

I'll Tivo it in order when HBO inevitably runs it in sequence on HBOW5R!Q or get it on DVD.

Bought this right when it came out on Blu-ray. Just as good as Band of Brothers. Didn't even realize I had read Sledges book With the Old Breed
