St. John's vs. Gonzaga will be a heck of a first round matchup.....one of the best IMO

Either way, the momentum of whichever team wins that matchup will play a huge role... I just don't see BYU advancing far, but thats me.

Doug Gotlieb with the quote of the night. "Penn St. and Temple, hopefully this game will be on TruTV, because it will be ugly."

1. Tennessee got what their performance merited. Getting Duke in the second round is a tall task.
2. Given his career record against Bob Huggins, I'm sure John Calipari is thrilled to see West Virginia as a possible second round opponent. That would make for interesting storylines.
3. Pitt got a marvelous draw. They'll never get a better setup to reach the Final four.

4. It says something about how highly the Selection Committee thinks of the Big East that a team on a five game losing streak got a 9 seed. Villanova can thank their cohorts for their position.
5. Syracuse-Xavier is a great potential second round game in Cleveland. If the Orange survive that, they've got a shot to get to the Final four.
6. Texas has to be hacked about getting a four seed. Having to start off with Oakland is no bargain, either.
7. Arizona-Memphis has some interesting back story. Josh Pastner gets a swing against his alma mater.
8. Louisville-Morehead is a sound first rounder. That'll keep people interested in various Bluegrass State outposts.
9. Utah State got hosed by the committee yet again. There's no way they should have been lower than an 8 seeed.
10. Kudos to Kevin O'Neill. Getting a seven man team to the 'AAs is a bigtime coaching job.

Good thoughts, as usual, particularly the bolded. Have a question for you:

Florida is way overseeded, but I don't trust BYU. Does Florida go down to Michigan State in round two, St. John's in the Sweet Sixteen, or Pitt in the Elite Eight? That Southeast region is just so screwy.

Also, I remember last time a team blew through the Big East tournament and was way overseeded. Georgetown got hammered by Ohio U. in round one. For that reason, I kinda want to say something negative about UConn, but they have a pretty manageable road to the Elite Eight.

Florida is apt to lose anytime after the first round.

UCONN is so up and down it's easy to see them falling early or making the regional final.

Agreed on both. UCONN has enough talent to be more consistent, but letting it become the KWalker show has hurt them in that regard.

I do like UFs slight change in approach. Seems they let Macklin drive the train unless he's in his lazy ass mood.

I think we match up pretty well with michigan if we play with defensive intensity--and if you can't do that in the tourney wtf.

In the event we make it past Michigan, what must we legitimately do against Duke to pull the upset? Is it anything we can do, or do we need more than simply playing at our best?

We need to play our best and have Duke go cold from 3 point land to even have a chance.

Utah St vs Belmont is going to be a very good 2nd round game for rights to the Sweet 16.

Vanderbilt will be lucky to get by Richmond.

UT actually got a match-up I think we will win. I did not think that at all going into the selection show.

Good thread, Hat. It seems the convo will eventually fall to how do we do against Duke, if we survive the first round. We've already taken down the third #1 seed handily. How do we stack up against the fourth?

I wouldn't like that matchup at all. Tennessee wouldn't be able to rebound offensively enough to stay in the game.
