The Pembroke Postgame Report (Auburn)

Wow, almost all positive. I thought the perimeter defense looked rather lazy. You disagree?
If you push out too much in their shooters, Barber and Barrett can work you over. I think they made a concious decision to give Auburn some room up top.

It'll be a dice throw. I think AU's RPI was 66, right on the cusp. If the SEC only gets two teams in, it will be a low point for this conference. Although the SEC certainly stunk this year.
Once you remove the bids for automatic qualifiers, 66 would be an exceptionally low RPI to make the field with as an at large.

I'm reposting from another thread here, but which 8 of these teams do we think we can leapfrog for a 5 seed if we can win tomorrow?(serious question)

asu
purdue
illinois
ucla
clemson
xavier
lsu
west va.
marq.
texas
utah

They are, as far as i can tell, the only team worth considering for a 5 seed, as the other 16 teams ahead of them seem assured of finishing higher than us.

4. Tomorrow affords the program an opportunity to take another important step. With a partisan crowd and an inferior opponent, UT needs to collect its first postseason hardware since Jimmy Carter was in the White House.

Figures. I'm pretty sure I've been to every tournament since 1994 until this year, and after over a decade of flops, the Vols play their way into the finals. Just doesn't seem fair.

Yes, it would. As of this morning (it is not updated for today's results,) Carolina is at 58, Auburn is 57, and Florida is 52. MSU is at 74.

I really think the committee is going to try to put in at least 3 from the SEC and would really prefer 4, but when you look at the resumes of the contenders, nobody is really giving them much of an excuse.

1. Another solid performance by the Vols. That's about as efficient as this team has performed in the halfcourt offensively.

I'm not so sure if this was the best in the halfcourt. Of the 18? turnovers we had, many of them were in the halfcourt. It was a good thing we were shooting well.

2. Wayne Chism has picked the perfect time to showcase his talents. Lots of guys have parlayed a couple of good weeks in March into a playing for pay.
3. I still have serious reservations about Maze and Tabb's combined ability to handle the ball against quality pressure. It would be to Tennessee's benefit if their NCAA draw doesn't include someone like Missouri.
4. Tomorrow affords the program an opportunity to take another important step. With a partisan crowd and an inferior opponent, UT needs to collect its first postseason hardware since Jimmy Carter was in the White House.
5. While I'm still not much of a fan, Jeff Lebo deserves immense credit for his team's performance down the stretch. He took a veteran team that appeared ready to spit the bit in January and turned them into one of the three best teams in the SEC.
6. All Hail Binghamton. I wonder what page the cretons at the New York Times will run the news of their making the NCAA field on tomorrow,.
7. Memphis is as good as anyone in the country defensively. However, their inability to score makes anything beyond a Sweet Sixteen appearance a dicey proposition.
8. Illinois looks absolutely done. The loss of Chester Frazier hurts, but they shouldn't be this bad.
9. Duke is too weak on the boards and defensively to be a contender. As soon as they face a physical, aggressive team with some talent, they'll be headed home.
10. Louisville should be able to wrap up a #1 seed with a win tonight. It strains credulity to think a team could win the Big East regular season and tournament titles and fail to be placed on the top line of the bracket.

I think you mean "cretin" which is a medical condition due to infantile hypothyroidism leading to mental retardation and synomous with moron and stupid.

Nevertheless, the Pembroke post game reports are excellant.:salute:

I'll go out on a limb and say that UT will face slightly better defenses than they saw from bama and auburn. As for UT's guard play...let's hope we don't face Louisville (again). That wouldn't be very pretty.

I'm not sure Bobby Maze could adequately defend most of the members of VolNation.

I see the stats on Prince but I also see that every time he gets the ball he is thinking how can I do something that will make Sports Center. Sometimes he makes it happen, other times he tries a bounce pass into heavy traffic on a break.
