The Pembroke Postgame Report-Choke Edition

Leadership..this team clearly lacks it. And balls...we clearly have none of those either.

Sure its all gravy if Hopson/Chism/Tatum start nailing threes at the beginning of the game, or if Tyler is making his infamous spin-loop-de-da shot in the paint early.

But heaven forbid we have to win a game with defense or hustle, or down to the wire.

Team has been lazy/cocky/unmotivated/vagina-esque for the better part of the season...

It's not that hard to beat this team. You've just got to play a zone D and stop an initial scoring flurry and you usually beat this team. Makes me wonder how well pearl's style works, especially without players who can constantly drain 3s like lofton and jajuan smith

Just very disappointing. It's getting almost impossible to defend this team and coach right now. There is no reason to think they make any noise in the NCAAs.

1. Yet another in the litany of blown opportunities in Tennessee Basketball history. A loss to an inferior opponent with hardware on the line is par for the program's course.
2. Tennessee should ride to its NCAA game on a short bus. It would be in line with this team's basketball intelligence.
3. The Pearlophiles who have used youth as a crutch for this team's uneven play this season might want to look at Mississippi State's roster. It's not like the Vols are the only team using freshmen and sophomores.
4. Rick Stansbury has been underrated for his entire tenure at State. Today is just further validation of that fact.
5. I guess Pearl's alleged genius on inbounds plays doesn't reveal itself when a championship on the line. Two wonderful offensive sets from underneath at the end of the game.
6. Congratulations to Danny Kaspar and his Stephen F. Austin club. A decade of steady building gets its big payoff.
7. Whoever lost their bid to Mississippi State has no business complaning. If you're on the bubble for a field this soft, it's your own fault.
8. I'll be interested to see where Duke gets seeded. We'll see how much the Selection Committee values wins over Top 50 opponents.
9. The SEC is going to be incredibly fortunate to have a team playing on the second weekend. I can't imagine Tennessee or LSU being better than a 6 seed.
10. The addition of Greg Anthony has improved the CBS studio show immensely. He's the only analyst on the payroll there now who isn't afraid of hurting people's feelings.

4. Agreed--to make a regular conference contender in a place like Starkville is a pretty stout accomplishment. The guy is a good coach.

10. I like Anthony in the studio, but I liked him even better as color man broadcasting the games.

Bruce's team has looked a lot like Jerry Green's teams this year. We are such a joke on both ends of the court, and we are totally lazy. Both point straight at the head jester.

me of Green--who had some talent but his Vol teams were SOOOO fundamentally bad and just made too many poor decisions on the court. If you aren't smart, you aren't going to beat many decent teams, that's for sure. Street basketball is for losers. So Chism taking treys is now one of UT's principal offensive options?

How many games do we have to lose to poor free throw shooting before we decide it's an area that needs to be fixed.

I know that isn't the sole reason we lost today... there are several...but this irritates me more than anything. There is no excuse for it.

29 percent from floor explains loss... I also wonder what our shot chat from 8 feet in looks like... I bet it will tell you why we lost no matter turnovers or ft's or last two minutes

hat, if JP Prince and a trained schnauzer were put in a cornfield maze, who would make their way out first?

I would change that to if TYLER SMITH and......

TYLER SMITH SUCKED MAJOR ASS.....

If he hit 30 percent of his shots we might have won....

Tyler Smith may have sucked, but if you gave me the choice between Tyler and JP in a multiplication table competition, I would take Tyler.

Why are we so hard on Prince? hit nearly 60% of his shots, plus had a huge three. Gotta lay the blame on T. Smith, he is good and all, but way to inconsistent.

At least w/ Prince you know what your getting.

The majority of Prince's points come from snowbirding or tip ins or lay ups, outside that he is a liablilty. He can not shoot the three to save his life, he misses alot of FT, he is a decent rebounder, and not a very good defender. The only thing he is good at is throwing is arms up and saying it is not his fault.

Yea and your point? Who has NBA talent? Not Smith! After watching this game I would say Vanardo all the way. I would take Vanardo over Smith any day.

OK, but you have to take his refs too.

(I couldn't resist)

MSU's interior defense had nothing to do with this. Also, Varnado and company got every defensive rebound and loose ball down the stretch.

At least JP can hit a layup....come on, Tyler!! After that game, looks like everyone will be back next season.

At least I won't be stupid enough to move Tennessee past the field of 32 in my brackets this year.

Good stuff, I think LSU will do better than a 6 seed. I can see them getting a 4. Everything else is spot on, especially about Stansbury, he always has State in a good situation come tourney time.

Have you been living in a cave for the last two weeks? LSU has looked very mediocre to close the season. That will really hurt their seeding. No way they are a 4 seed.

I think the most likely is 6s for UT and LSU and a 12 for MSU.
