The Pembroke Postgame Report-Choke Edition

First time I have read the Pembroke report....very nice. I will have to start reading them more :)

Definitely a highlight for me after each game.

Losing close games like this time after time this year is yet another indication that this team needs at least an average PG.

I just looked up "lazy basketball pass" in the encyclopedia and there was a picture of JP Prince at the head of the section.

Why are we so hard on Prince? hit nearly 60% of his shots, plus had a huge three. Gotta lay the blame on T. Smith, he is good and all, but way to inconsistent.

At least w/ Prince you know what your getting.

To counter that three, Prince also put up a huge brick from about 5 feet from the basket in the last couple of minutes and turned the ball over on the pass to Smith with about 10 seconds to go.

1. Yet another in the litany of blown opportunities in Tennessee Basketball history. A loss to an inferior opponent with hardware on the line is par for the program's course.
2. Tennessee should ride to its NCAA game on a short bus. It would be in line with this team's basketball intelligence.
3. The Pearlophiles who have used youth as a crutch for this team's uneven play this season might want to look at Mississippi State's roster. It's not like the Vols are the only team using freshmen and sophomores.
4. Rick Stansbury has been underrated for his entire tenure at State. Today is just further validation of that fact.
5. I guess Pearl's alleged genius on inbounds plays doesn't reveal itself when a championship on the line. Two wonderful offensive sets from underneath at the end of the game.
6. Congratulations to Danny Kaspar and his Stephen F. Austin club. A decade of steady building gets its big payoff.
7. Whoever lost their bid to Mississippi State has no business complaning. If you're on the bubble for a field this soft, it's your own fault.
8. I'll be interested to see where Duke gets seeded. We'll see how much the Selection Committee values wins over Top 50 opponents.
9. The SEC is going to be incredibly fortunate to have a team playing on the second weekend. I can't imagine Tennessee or LSU being better than a 6 seed.
10. The addition of Greg Anthony has improved the CBS studio show immensely. He's the only analyst on the payroll there now who isn't afraid of hurting people's feelings.

Whoa! Hold your horses. Go back and look at your preseason evaluation of this Tennessee team. If my memory serves my correct, you thought we would be fortunate to make it to the Big Dance and would finish in the middle of the SEC. I guess the nice wins against the Alabama teams whetted our appetite for a championship. IMO, we didn't underachieve or overachieve, especially not having a division one level point guard.

Are you trying to tell me losing to Mississippi State isn't a collapse?

No, I'm saying that the body of work for the season is about what you predicted.
That doesn't change the fact that the SEC was even more horrible than I thought and they had an SEC Tournament title handed to them and they couldn't finish.

CBS should be embarrassed for allowing those two geezers to call a game together. Utter embarrassment. One is bad, put the two of them together and you have a train wreck.

Actually, one of the turnovers was on Tyler. He was just plain awful today and instead of getting the ball, he stopped, and sat back for the pass.

That pass was retarded and whatever scorekeeper put it on Tyler should be shot. Another in the long line of idiotic moves by JP

No they weren't. The refs were bad but UT's horrible play made the refs become a factor. Had UT not played like morons the refs wouldn't have been a factor no matter how biased they were.

The last ten seconds of the game were the worst combination of terrible play and terrible officiating I have ever seen at the end of a game but the officiating was a push as far as being a factor.

No doubt that this season was full of squandered opportunities for the Vols. Fighting all logic, I was hoping for a wake up call in the SEC tourney, but the fact of the matter is that this is not a championship team.

Hasn't been all year. Next year, maybe with some maturity and dedication this team will improve. Dumba** play has beat this team all year.

I don't know if one was crediting to Tyler on the scoring line, but it doesn't take much BB IQ to know that you should "get" the ball when it's passed to you.

And CBS giving the player of the game to JP is right in line with them having two morons on the mic for a championship game.

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about, but if you mean the inbounds play where Prince tried to dump it back to Smith, that turnover belongs 100% to J.P.

If you want to blame Tyler for something, start with the 5 second call. It seemed quick, but that is on the inbounder.

I'll never claim to be a BB expert like alot on here ,But I've watched alot of games and I can never remember Shaq ever being so dominate defensively as Varnardo is inside that guy is gonna make a fortune in the NBA

The game yesterday was very similar to the game we lost against Alabama to end the regular season...

How many shots around the basket did we miss??..Tyler Smith couldn't buy a basket...Missed free throws....

Then at the end we get beat by our own game....We couldn't even get the ball inbounds...(We hit those lay-ups and free throws we don't have to worry about the last 10-12 seconds because we are blowing Miss State out)

It's also very easy for a guy (Vanardo) to be so aggressive blocking shots when he knows he won't get called for a foul...Good ole Tennessee boy coming back to haunt the Vols...

Most on here thought we were in regardless what we did against Alabama but to be a #9 seed and make the championship game we could very well have been in the N.I.T had we lost that first game...I heard during the broadcast that we might even be a #4 or #5 seed..The S.E.C. regular season champion gets a #8 seed and the tourney champ gets a #13 seed....It was an embarrassing day to be a S.E.C. basketball fan yesterday....

Not that one. There was one earlier where Tyler was on his heals and looked to be waiting for the ball to hit him in the stomach rather than reaching out and catching the ball on the block. In traffic, you have to "catch" the ball, otherwise, it's a turnover more often than not.

Leadership..this team clearly lacks it. And balls...we clearly have none of those either.

Sure its all gravy if Hopson/Chism/Tatum start nailing threes at the beginning of the game, or if Tyler is making his infamous spin-loop-de-da shot in the paint early.

But heaven forbid we have to win a game with defense or hustle, or down to the wire.

Team has been lazy/cocky/unmotivated/vagina-esque for the better part of the season...

What an insult to Vaginas everywhere...
