The Pembroke Postgame Report-Ole Miss

If I'm Alabama, I think long and hard about making a run at AK.

yeah, and if I'm Ole Miss, I am doing whatever it takes to keep him. Have you heard any other names being tossed around for the Bama job? I heard Tubby of course, but I don't think that is a realistic possibility.

Taking a coach from another SEC West school? I thought that was a no-no.
It generally is, but it wouldn't be unprecedented. Auburn took Tuberville from Ole Miss in football and, on the other side of the league, Tubby went from UGA to Kentucky. Further, UK certainly wasn't shy about pursuing Billy Donovan.

Hat, how long do you think Bruce has before the "honeymoon" is over and the masses start critizicing him?

I think it is already over by listening to talk radio and reading some posts on here. The man has had 3 great years and this is his first down year. And by down, he will still probably win 20+ games and make the tourney.

ya i mean c'mon, really, this is par for the course when a program starts succeeding--success invites attention; attention invites scrutiny; scrutiny gives way to drastic overreactions; overreactions become the norm.

If you hear someone say "Pearl should be fired" at this point you should take a big picture approach and acknowledge how far the program has come, instead of dumbly assuming such talk means anything more than what was stated above.

In other words: I agree, Jack

True some of absolutly losing it. Im not ready to say Pearl must go or anything, but im also not in the crowd that thinks he is the only guy who can coach here

Just curious, where do you see us getting 20+ wins from? We're at 16 right now with road games at UK, USC and Florida. All games that, with the way we played tonight, I see us losing. Home games with Alabama and Miss. St, the latter of which I could see us coughing up. Say we do win the 2 home games, that gets us 18. You really think we can knock out 2 in the SEC Tourney to get to 20? I don't. I just don't see 20 wins at all.

People will be patient, but if this team is playing uninspired, haphazard basketball next year, people will start to publicly grumble.

You've really got to take your hat off to Andy Kennedy: tonight, his team just flat-out wanted it more. Dominating the boards, getting to all the 50/50 balls; you're just not going to overcome that unless you're shooting the ball considerably better than the opposition, which, obviously, we weren't.

I find it interesting that Trent Johnson, Andy Kennedy, and Darrin Horn have all acquitted themselves remarkably well given their respective circumstances, whereas the Holy Trinity of Pearl, Donovan and Billy Clyde have struggled. (Rick Stansberry isn't exactly lighting it up, either.)

It's difficult to determine whether Auburn's recent little run is due to anything Jeff Lebo's done in terms of strategy, lineups or motivation, or to the gutty efforts of a veteran team who has done nothing but lose during their entire tenure and has finally decided to make an all-in run at the Dance. I'm kind of leaning toward the latter, as I personally don't think Lebo can coach his way out of a paper bag. Your mileage may vary.

Hat, do you think AK is better than Rick Stansbury? I personally think Rick is great coach and does a lot with less.

Also, how long do you think Arkansas can keep John Pelphrey? I know they have the money but if UK let Billy go in a year or 2, wouldnt he be one of the number 1 targets?

I don't see Pelphrey having a long tenure. My guess is that if he is out at Kentucky, for whatever reason, BCG is going to look to get back to the Big 12.

This was a very poor performance, and again I think this is due to our relative youth at the guard position. I felt that the rebounding problem in this game was due to our inability to control Ole Miss off the bounce thus, forcing our bigs into help situations leaving their men not boxed out. If you can't control the dribble and your posts have to help every possession, a lot of offensive rebounds are going to occur. With that said, those of you constantly criticizing Pearl are those that must have never watched Tennessee basketball before he arrived.

I think Bobby Maze and Hopson got used by White and Huertas tonight. I feel like Tabb should start at the point with Tatum at 2. Defensively, we would be a lot stronger.

That being said, White and Huertas are a damn good backcourt.

Maze got abused. We knew our back court play would hold us back this year, and it really showed this game. Unfortunately, next year our front court play may resemble what our guard play has been looking like this year.

Brian Williams needs to spend the summer with DeJuan Blair to learn about strength and attitude in rebounding.

I was more disappointed with our performance tonight than I was with our performance against Lebo's squad...and that is sad. Chism and Smith had the scoring numbers, but where were the boards...they got outworked.

With KY going down yesterday and SC tonight, it seems like no one in the East wants this thing. You can never say we didn't have a chance to take it, that's for sure.

With Ole Miss working the perimeter, how many times were we 3-1 under the boards and loss the ball?

Also, as big as Williams is no one should be able to slap the ball out of this hands. It happens 4-5 times each game.

Bottom line: this just isn't a good basketball team. Granted, I watched 3 minutes of the game last night, but I got a good offense I think Pearl should try out. It's called MOVE

I can't stand to watch them anymore. They just stand around. They try to beat the zone by having Tyler force something in the lane, but nobody moves to open spaces. They just stand, flat footed. They aren't breaking to the goal, or finding an open lane to get a good look at a shot. It's seems to be just basketball 101 with these guys.

And can somebody please tell Ronaldo Woolridge to go back to his recording studio in Cali? The dude shoots with his right side facing the goal. It's pure ugliness.

1. An utterly shameful performance by Tennessee. To play with that little passion with SEC and NCAA Tournament seedings on the line is a disgrace.
2. No coach is getting his guys to play harder right now than Andy Kennedy. They utterly destroyed Tennessee with their toughness on the boards.
3. If surgeries and rehab go well, Ole Miss will be near impossible to guard on the perimeter next year. I can't think of a team that will return four better backcourt players than Warren, White, Huertas, and Polynice.
4. The entire SEC East is a wreck. There is no glory in finishing on top of the division this season.
5. Notre Dame's NCAA hopes are on life support. On the other hand, West Virginia should be comfortable now.
6. Seth Greenberg had a legitimate complaint when the Hokies were left out of the NCAA Tournament last year. Back to back losses to Maryland and Virginia indicate the NIT is where his club belongs this year.
7. I don't care if you're in the SWAC, 52 straight conference wins is an incredible accomplishment. Memphis is doing something we aren't likely to see again for a long, long time.
8. Congratulations to LSU on winning the SEC. Trent Johnson has certainly proven to be an inspired choice as head coach.
9. Butler has played themselves into dangerous territory. A loss in their BracketBuster game and they may well have to win their conference tournament to get into the 'AA field.
10. Jeff Lebo is trying to save Auburn a bunch of money. The Tigers are playing well enough to warrant his return next season.
Thanks Hat. Nice break down. Not much reason for UT to go to tourney if this kind of effort goes with it. I have been keeping up with Memphis, not being a hater as most on here.I hope their run/play continues.
