1. A fitting end to a frustrating season. Moments of brilliance wiped out by too frequent flashes of idiocy.
2. Byron Eaton is a very good college player. That said, Tennessee's defense made him look like the second coming of Tim Hardaway.
3. No excuse for the last sequence. No helpside defense on one end, a disorganized abortion of a possession on the other.
4. Good work by Cam Tatum today. Hopefully, that'll be a springboard into next season.
5. Negedu showed glimpses of improvement today. It'll be interesting to see how much of a limitation his lack of early basketball instruction proves to be on his learning curve.
6. Tennessee could use a player like Moses. The Vols lack a true enforcer along the baseline defensively and on the boards.
7. Bruce Pearl's fourth season ended in the same building as Jerry Green's. The similarities between the two regimes is starting to concern me.
8. Gutsy win by Marquette. Bouncing back from injury and a tough finish to the regular season speaks well of their character.
9. Good showing by North Dakota State. They'll be the blueprint for teams looking to make the jump to D-I.
10. Syracuse versus the winner of Temple-Arizona State will be a good one. Dionte Christmas or James Harden against the Orange zone is an intriguing match.

Hat, are you optimistic about some of Tennessee's woeful tendencies being improved on by next season?

Good assessment Hat. The last sequence of the game was just a replay of countless games this year.

Bruce's honeymoon is over. This his is 1st "bad" season since being hear and its his players. I rly like Tatum 2day, aggressive and Scotty needs to learn to be more aggressive, they couldn't stop him when he went toward the hole. Maybe Pearl will bring JP off the bench (which is where I think he is a better fit anyway) and use Hopson and Tatum in the starting lineup together next year.

Nothing is going to change unless there are different people involved. Fundamental law of life.

This team is hard to watch even for us novice basketball minds. Thanks for all your reports hat! Maybe you should save em and just repost next year. I also appreciate your patience with my limited bb knowledge.

ONE thing I know: You can't let the other team's best player drive in for a layup in the last seconds of a game. That cannot happen--it's basketball 101. He can make a pullup jumper, he can drive and dish when help comes, but the help has to be there, and early! When Eric Maynor had the ball in the last seconds last night for VCU, ucla had two players on him and he could not drive and he had to throw up a bad shot. That's how you defend a very late-game shot. You also can't have your friggin' center pretending to be a guard all season long--what in the HELL was Pearl thinking with that. I realize Chism shoots the three as well or better than anyone else on the Vols, but if your center/power forward is not playing--and STAYING--near the paint, something is wrong.

You're not alone CD. I enjoy these threads because I always leave them smarter.

Can someone explain the love affair with Brian Williams? I just don't see what exactly he's bringing to the team. He was awful on defense today, he's never been much on offense, and I can't stand his constant whining. I just don't see him becoming more than a guy off the bench every now and then.

I'm not Hat, but I think the Frosh. will improve, especially Scotty, Cam, and Negedu. Hopefully Williams decides to make the leap, and become a consistent force, but i rly don't expect it to happen. I'm rly interested in Jurick, b/c i know his offensive game is abysmal, yet he's a big body that can help us defensively and on the boards. Bruce has to change his style though, the fact this team shot 31 three's in this game with the size advantage with absolutely no shot blcokers is dreadful. THis team is not meant to take 30's threes, they need to drive the ball to the hoop and kick. When they did that they controlled the game, and when they fell in love with the three, okie st. controlled the game. Its as simple as that.

Seeing Ryan Wittman hitting jumpers for Cornell makes me feel old. His father is one of my all time favorite players.

It's not like we didn't see this loss coming. Just about everybody on GVX and quite a few on this site said, "one and done."

Yes but just as many were whining about how we were screwed in our seeding and all that. Apparently we weren't.

Very disappointing end to very disappointing season. CBP needs to reverse some of these trends in order to remain successful at UT. However, if you cannot hit outside OR inside shots, especially against a team with a 6'6" guy as their tallest starter, you aren't going to win a lot of games.

I'm kind of glad now last year we didn't get a 1# seed, as we would have likely been the worst #1 seed ever.

hat my final question of the year (well maybe not) . Are players not coached to follow their shot any more?

Not much, because most coaches are obsessed with getting back on defense and floor balance. If a guy chases his own rebound, he better get it. Otherwise, he's going to catch Hell.

Do you coach little league or something? Good god, what a dumb question.

maybe read the thread a bit more before jumping into a discussion. Some people ask questions to learn about the game from others with more knowledge

it just wasn't that long ago where "Tennessee" and "NCAA Tournament" had no business being mentioned in the same breath.

if that's as bad as it gets under Pearl...........well, ok.:eek:k:

As I am on my way home from the games stuck in traffic, see the Tennessee bus stuck in traffic next to me, and I read the start the bus thread, i get a chuckle.
