The QB doesn’t matter against UGA, the OL does

Not hopeless by any means just doubtful we win in Athens with Moore. Very doubtful
I don't doubt it. Cause 1: I don't quit on my Vols. Cause 2: I think the Gas man is the right QB 2 for the Heup system. Cause 3: Gas is both volatile and explosive, it burns things, and this game is already hot. Fire is orange not red - Fwoosh!

Why not? If he protects the ball and manages the game we'll, he definitely can beat UGA. You guys view UGA as some 85 Bears 2000's Ravens defense. They're not that this year. The hunger and leadership is gone.
Because Georgia is going to key on Sampson and load the box. Moore will not be able to fit the ball in the windows of Georgia's defense. And if he does I will eat all kinds of crow raw. Guy I have hope but it isn't blind.

What do you think the other teams do? It's no secret that we run the ball. We execute, we win individual assignments in the run game, hit a pass or two, and we win. Have you not watched the games? We will still run or use short passes.

How many of them have been Georgia dude ? With Gaston on the field ? Exactly very few. The largest sample size has been Nico and he has the abilities Gaston doesn't which are huge leaps above what Gaston has shown to be able to do. So excuse me for having a different take. I don't like the situation as it stands with unknowns or having to use the backup in a critical game. End of discussion for me.

He's in college, not sure what your point is. He'll he could be a Stetson Bennett type. He may just be a game manager, which is good enough to win.
If he were a Stetson type I highly doubt he isn't starting elsewhere. I will exit the convo now. Hope it happens the way you envision

To have any chance in this game...it will take a total package from our O. We not only need Nico, but we need elite Nico. I'm very glad we have Gaston Moore as a back-up, but this game is not one to trot out a back-up QB. GM can manage a game, but he was 5/8 for 38yds. Not exactly mind scrambling. And against a much weaker D, and at home.

Bottom line. UGA is backed up against the wall. A loss and they're out of the play-offs and their fan base will lose it. The players are talented. They are deep. CKS is a great coach. They will be ready, inspired, and the crowd will be out of control. It truly will take the Vols playing better than they have all season. Less than 5 penalties, ZERO turnovers, field position, Gilbert's best kicking performance, create turnovers on D, stop the gashing runs, and hope the ball bounces our way.

I'm hopeful, but not optimistic. Sorry, just keeping it real.

I have not notice that at all. Do you have any stats that back up your first sentence?
I've noticed, but it's not holding on to the ball too long more than it is not realizing that he needs to take off and run.

Hooker was a master at *quick read* *quick read* *run*

I think Nico lets the play take too long to develop, and Heupel's offense really can't work that way. If the read isn't there, you run and get the yards you can.

Exhibit 1 (Sports Illustrated cover with T-Rob (1985)
Exhibit 2 (Sugar VOLS with Dickey)

I fondly recall in my freshman year both the jubilation of defeating the Bo Jackson Tigers in Neyland and defeating the “U” in New Orleans with a back-up quarterback (after we lost T-Rob mid season). While Dickey did get drafted, his career centered around being a coach and eventually an AD.

While I hope Nico recovers quickly as we all do, I’m old enough now to remember that this game is certainly a team sport… and the “next man up“ can actually win if the team is aligned and hungry to achieve the same objective.

While both Bennet and Dickey‘s “professional“ career highlights as players will likely be similar, both surely achieved greatness starting as a “back-up qb” in college. If Nico can’t play this weekend, I’ll be “All In” with Gaston to whip up our adversaries just like our team did back in January 1986!

Go VOLS!

I hope you are right. I get it. I will be hollering and yelling too. Just hopeful for Nico.

Ole Miss laid the blueprint. Heup and company are surely studying that film in order to continue to exploit UGA.
Ole Miss also has Jaxson Dart who isn't Heisman quality but he is capable of making game changing plays and extending plays by himself and did against GA. We primarily want Gaston Moore to manage the offense and make no mistakes.

If we're calling on Gaston to roll out, throw dimes on the run, scamper for yardage, etc very often, I'm not sure we're looking at reality. If Gaston Moore was that guy, he'd probably be starting somewhere instead of spending his last year basically studying to be a college coach.

Why are you so afraid of Georgia? They've lost twice this year, once to a team we beat with a RS Freshman QB. But cower in the corner, and I will be cheering, expecting a win. If we lose, so be it. I'm not going to concede the game just because they were good last year.

Not afraid GA. Afraid Our back up is not good enough to keep them honest enpugh to beat them. Big difference between Bama with Milroe and OM with Dart. Both of those were road games.

We absolutely have to have an effective passing game. Receivers HAVE to catch, they can't be falling down we will need 2 or 3 huge passing plays to give the offense enough breathing room and to let the defense take care of the rest. We absolutely have to click in the pass game because that is Georgia's weak spot.
Moore can make the passes and look good throwing from rollouts last week. Had a cool head. He will be a good game manager and will execute exactly what CJH brought him along for. We don't have to have deep down field plays. medium to over medium will be sufficient, but we will need to require those WR's make the plays that come their way.

I did see Matthews got in a few routes last week, but only saw one where he was targeted, and not a great throw. Would like to see him in space after a catch.

Maybe you are severely underestimating Moore. If he was as bad in the coaches notebooks as he is in your head he wouldn't be #2considering what we have looming at #3. And if the 2nd half last week didn't show you he can make smart, accurate throws, you prob still be dissing him even if he puts us up 59-0. CJH brought him from UCF for a reason. Not likely a starter per se, but a well grounded back-up in this system.

They'll need a few chunk plays to hit. That will get a few of them off the LOS. Got to make them play you honest.. They pinned their ears back and jumped the snap count 2 years ago down there..Can't let that be the case this year or it will be similar results.

I believe Moore to still be a walk on, which means little I suppose if they secured enough NIL to cover him. Sure, a few guys who remain walk ons have probably started in the SEC but most, like Bennett, get scholarships eventually.

Moore has remained a walk on since transferring. While I suspect Heupel DID strongly encourage him to come, how many SEC QBs sitting at #2 do you think are still walk ons as seniors?

None of that is to diss Moore. He gave a great accounting of himself taking over for Nico, but one has to ask: why no scholarship as a senior?

Not being on scholly was his call I believe. Pretty sure he turned down the scholly and told them he didn't need it and use it on someone that did. It was either him or Brooks. Or both. Moore is the one who has helped other teammates manage their NIL ventures and money and helped others set up to get NIL, etc., while the collective was getting its footing. He's a student mastermind at it. That was news during his first season or two here with CJH. Players would go to him for the help.

As to your point #2, how many Walk-on senior QB's are good enough to be sitting at #2 in the pecking order on an SEC team, especially knowing #3 is Mecklinger.

I wonder if you're thinking of Grant Frerking, who owns Metro Straw out of Atlanta.
Here is an old article I found on him.
