The read option

I have no idea why Worley won't run it more. He has the ability. I honestly believe the kid is just scared of contact.

It's really the only reason that makes any sense at this point.

Any chance he's been told not to run it? That way he remains healthy, preserving the freshmen qb's?

Not to be that guy but we don't run the read option. We run the zone read. It is a completely different offensive philosophy

Sorry. I see that I typed read option instead of zone read. I know better so I'm not sure why my fingers typed that. :hi:

I pointed this out once only to be told that it's basically the same thing. Everyone on this site calls it the read option. Maybe start a thread explaining the difference?

I've always called it the zone read, but according the wikipedia (I know it's wikipedia):

The most popular running play employed in the spread is the Read Option. This play is also known as the Zone Read, QB Choice, or QB Wrap. A type of double option, the read option is a relatively simple play during which the offensive line zone blocks in one direction, ignoring defensive personnel, while the quarterback makes a single read (usually of the backside defensive end or linebacker) and decides whether or not to hand the ball to a running back on a dive or slant track -- "reading the end and decide whether to keep it or to pull it".

As I understand it the zone read is simply the offensive line zone blocking with the quarterback making the read for the running back or keeping it.

I guess technically it is the read option because the zone read is part of it but the read option encompasses more.

I did like the adjustment of pig Howard fake in the backfield to offset the de not respecting the Worley option

I said this in another thread, but has anyone else noticed every time we line up read option with RB behind QB, they hand off; every time they are lined up next to each other its a play action pass. Every time. If I can see that from T55 surely they can see it in the coaching booth.

Not according to Butch.

I'm inclined to believe the guy, but.....

If Worley wasn't making the correct read, if he wasn't running it because he was scared, or whatever, wouldn't he be sitting on the bench? Or was that the Peterman experiment?

If I'm Butch Jones and Worley is the best quarterback on the roster, my only other options are true freshman who I believe are not ready to play, and my team is averaging 5.4 yards a rush, I'm probably telling Worley it's his call, but his lack of rushing attempts probably isn't my biggest offensive concern right now.

Agree. All I can do is speculate.

I'm honestly getting pissed with this game plan. If he's not going to keep it at least 25% of the time, no team takes it seriously, so STOP RUNNING THE MOTHER%#*^IN' PLAY! Unreal that our coaches haven't figured this out.

But, didn't you watch the S. Bama game? He kept a couple times. You just never know what that worleybird is gonna do next!
