Doesn’t explain why we were flat most of the second half of the season though.

Yeah I agree ...all the analysts have different ideas and criticism but bottom line...well you stated it...we didn’t have any (I MEAN ZERO) help on the inside and we missed shots in boatloads. Make a few of those and it’s a different story. Stage was too big for our freshmen and James and Bailey were like 5-24. And Pons was like 0-3 from the field with 4 pts from FT line. We bad need 2 athletic bigs and a shooter would help. But hey doesn’t everyone?

Flat aint got nothing to do with it ...like I've said all year .. we have NO bigs ... you are not gonna shoot well every game .. thats where the offensive boards come in play .. we get none ... thats why some teams can shoot poorly from 3 but get 20 offensive rebounds a game and get put backs .. it was the achilles heel of this team going in and unless they hit portal hard for some 6'9 250 tough inside guys .. it will be same next year .. all our perimeter guys have regressed .. no confidence .. so we better find a shooter in the portal too .. ive seen 50 guys in this ncaa tourney who can make 3's all over the floor .

I love CRB as a person and developer of men. Can also develop inside players given time. However he struggles as an X&Os coach and adjustments. With 3 NBA ready players, (Williams, Admiral, Bone) he still couldn’t win the SEC or get past the Sweet 16. This year he has potentially 3 league players and struggled in the SEC and AAs. I don’t think I have ever seen Ky, Duke, UNC, Kansas do that. Michigan played 5 FR and won (?) the title. Cal won with Freshmen at PG, Center, and wing players. Just enjoy Barnes during the regular season and don’t get your hopes too high.

Look at the entire college basketball season. The reason we were flat is the same reason there have been inexplicable upsets throughout the year and the same reason KY and Duke are absent. The 5* One and Done model only works with ridiculous amounts of practice time. Covid killed that.

Teams with workhorse 3 and 2 stars who have played together for 5 years can overcome the talent of the fab freshmen. Our guys didn't have the time to gel properly. Losing Fulk only complicated that. Look at all the upsets already in the first round. Covid helped parity. I know it was disappointing for us to tank, but Barnes knows what he's doing.

2008 Louisville - #3 Seed, 27-9, #6 Coaches Poll, #13 AP
2019 Purdue - #3 Seed, 26-10, #8 Coaches Poll, #13 AP.

2006 Tennessee was a #2 seed, lost to #7 seed in the round of 32.

Why is anyone here surprised one iota about what happened vs OSU? It has absolutely 100% been this teams MO for the last 2/3 of the season. One good game making us wonder if we have the pieces for a FF run. Followed by an absolute tur9 in the punchbowl where we have no energy, no chemistry, and can't throw the ball in the ocean!
Back up and remember, we played well should have upset Bama even w a starter out. So, this was the next game ... what else did anyone really expect?

Yep. Louisville was 27-9 and got beat by North Carolina in the Elite Eight. That North Carolina team went on to get absolutely crushed in the final four by the eventual national champion Kansas.

Purdue was 26-10 and got beat in the Elite Eight in overtime by the eventual national champion Virginia. If anything, the Purdue team was better than the Louisville team.

Wrong. Pearl outperformed his seeding twice in six ncaa tournaments (2007, 2010). He also underachieved twice (2006, 2008).

That's obviously better than Barnes thus far as Barnes has underachieved based on his seeding in all three tournaments he's taken us too, but let's at least put a little bit of effort in to get the facts straight rather than worshipping Pearl for things he didn't even do.

We aren't a 1 and done situation like those teams. They will have 6-7 freshmen times. We had 2 that played. We returned a team with 2 all SEC level seniors and a bunch of other players with 1-2 years in Barnes' system. There's a reason we were picked in the top 10 by everyone. This team reminds me of Jerry Green's team that started 16-1 and then crashed and burned.

That Louisville team had 4 top 25 recuits on it. 4 guys who went to the NBA with around 4 more in the top 75, and Rick Pitino coaching it. That Purdue team had one top 70 player on it and he was the one NBA player. They had one other guy ranked around 75th and a bunch of 3 stars with Matt Painter coaching it.

That Louisville team was much better than that Purdue squad.

Admiral and Bone aren't in the NBA and Williams averages about 5 minutes and 3 points a game.

I think that mind set filtered thru to the team and they won’t admit it but they are glad they are free to go home.

one other thing Barnes mentioned in his pregame yesterday was the big 10 teams had been there much longer and we know they had a disaster of a day.

You gotta hit the shots if you plan to win games. If Tn has consistent problems all season hitting shots....practice, practice, practice. And then practice on your off time. Defense is great-- you gotta have it. But sometimes you just have to make your shots.

Their 7 ft center averaged 5 Ppg. Against us, he was 8 for 8 and scored a CAREER high 16 points. You have to love how our football and basketball teals can always make pedestrian players look like All Americans

Defense is great? We let a horrible team shoot almost 50% and also knock down almost 50% of their 3’s. Our defense pretty much sucked, just like the rest of our game. It was obvious from the opening tip our team had no energy or desire to even win that game. We should have given our spot to a team that actuall wanted to be there, like Ole Miss who would have performed much better
