The Recruiting Fix: Something Special Brewing

Lane, Reaves, Gran, Monte and O should all be locked in right?

Isn't O learning Monte's defense and waiting in line to take over at some point? Unless he wants to be a defensive coordinator sooner rather than later or is offered another head coaching job, we should be good with him. Then Gran... unless he wants to go back to Tuberville, I don't know that I see him as an offensive coordinator so if that's the case, he stuck with runningbacks and Tennessee should make him the highest paid runningbacks coach to keep him if that's what he wants.

Chaney and Thompson worry me though. Chaney takes a back to seat to Lane in play calling and Thompson may be capable of being a defensive coordinator. Would probably go to a smaller school first. That or someone out their may be willing to write him a fat check for his ability to recruit. I would really hate to lose Chaney though.

Who do you think will be the most likely to leave in the next couple of years?

As I said in my blog entry, I don't expect to lose anyone this year. And all this is pure speculation BTW. Lance Thompson has no ties here and could jump ship for a co-DC job, but I don't see him making a lateral move. Eddie Gran will be sought after eventually whether it's for Tubs or someone else. Chaney could make the jump back to the NFL, but I don't see it happening unless it's the right team and not having play-calling duties hurts his chances (I think in 3 years, he may be calling plays. Hard to say.)

Frank Wilson is tied to Orgeron methinks and I can't see him going elsewhere unless O makes the jump to DC somewhere which is certainly a possibility, but he's making DC money here with less headaches. Also quite possible he could even be offered a Head coaching job.

If this team wins the SEC in year 3, expect some departures.

So in other words, other teams will pursue Gran but unless Tuberville comes calling or doesn't like it here, he has no reason to leave right? If he is going to be a runningback coach anyways and Tennessee can match, I don't see the point in leaving unless he is unhappy or wants to be with his friend. So I guess I am worried about Tuberville coming back to coach because I think that's where Gran's loyalty lies unless this team grows on him. Lane, Chaney, Gran, O and Monte are the only ones I am really worried about keeping. I would like to keep Thompson too but that's the core I would like to see stay for the long haul. I will just have to cross my fingers.

I like the line about Dunkley: He was complimentary of his visit to Knoxville, but kind of in the same way you would be complimentary of your little brother’s “fat little girlfriend.”
The next line should read, "and then you see her the next year and she's all toned up and smokin' hot!"

I'm not sure how much ambition Gran has to be an OC eventually. I could be very wrong, but he seems like a guy that is very content with his role and is likely to continue to be so. Gran has said before that he wouldn't jump ship to join Tuberville, and I think Tubs gets a job this year for sure. Somewhere. Gran isn't going to make a lateral move especially at a school that will likely have a lower payroll and I don't think Gran is ready to be an OC yet.

BTW, did anyone else catch the correlation between the "Recruiting Junkie" sigs and "The Recruiting Fix"?

Tooting my own horn here, and if you have to point it out it likely isn't that clever to begin with.

Hey Sab, is there someone that nobody is talking about right now that we could shock and pull out during NSD?

Sab that was fantastic. A pay site needs to offer you money to work for them, because I used to pay for articles and they were not better than what you offer for free.

I really enjoyed it. It appears you are totally right about Pair, but I am wondering then who we might lose? Jose Jose going to get a Miami offer?

BTW, most of the rumors I am referring to are going to be originating from teams battling UT for key prospects. More smoke than fire per say.

We've done so much talking that most everyone has been discussed.

I'll throw a name out there though: Keenan Allen.

Don't read too much into it.

Really funny that guys I thought might get fired are totally safe (Weis and Shannon).

Still I think Gran and Thompson would be the two we are most likely to lose and I do not see that devastating us. We will also lose on the OL a Grad Assistant who would be an excellent OL coach.

Our quality under Lane Kiffin is remarkable on the offensive side considering many guys have too large of ego's to work under someone who has a great reputation built on the back of absurd talent. Lots of the best coaches on offense or defense struggle to get a great coordinator under them because they get the credit for the success.

Chaney is fantastic, I love Cregg although I was dead wrong about Uko and Powell and now probably even Shirley in CA, and our GA we have this year is doing an awesome job.

Coaching change rumors may deserve a new thread. FSU, UGA keeping Martinez (great for us I think in that he sucks, but bad for recruiting because we could have pulled some studs in if he left), UVA probably post Groh, Louisville maybe, Memphis maybe...interesting to me the coaching stability in the SEC this year. That is great for us! Our staff is keenly aware that this is the best conference.

I think Illinois looks like a stay away program for the studs on our staff with Big 10 connections because if Zook could not win with the players he brought in, it looks somewhat hopeless.

Good point on Browning. 0 chance that he ends up with the program next year short of being named the O-line coach, which would require getting rid of someone else on the staff. I can't see that happening.

Sab, that was beyond awesome. You and Vader are really something else. Thanks for all you provide, bro!

Well done. That was extremely informative. At what point, if they haven't already, do scouting services (scout, rivals, etc) start ranking classes?

I would really like to see Allen in Orange but I heard the staff didn't want this guy and his heart it somewhere else anyways. All of the video footage I have seen of this guy, he seems to have it all. Wishful thinking for me at least.
