The sampson push

Loved Dylan’s interview after the game. Very humble, talked about team culture and chemistry. More of a fan now than I was before
When I saw his postgame comments I felt proud to have such a fine young man representing the University of Tennessee.
Coach Heupel, and his entire staff deserve a lot of credit for the team culture they have created.

Kinda sucks for LSU too. Has to be hard watching a kid that grew up in BatonRouge kill it for another Sec school

From my uneducated eye…

#0 DL Walker just quit after he missed the tackle.
Spraggins took out #90 Rybka DL then joined in the push.
#9 DL Silver was on the wrong side of the push and tried to pull
Mays was at the core of the push.
Ketselman TE was there and was joined by Staes TE who ran around DL Walker to push.
#25 DB Lovett was pushing and got turned around and facing the wrong way
Nico was observing and quickly joined in the push
#3 DB Afari was blocked out by Staes and never put any effort in after that
#74 Campbell was holding #42 OLB Fearbry, and ended up on the wrong side. Ran around before joining in the push.
#6 DB Hardaway held his hands out but never pushed.
#2 ILB Dumas-Johnson was late pushing and found himself on the wrong side of the push
Bru came in near the end and joined in the push
#20 DB Nichols came in as the TD is being made

It wasn’t too many years ago that the defense could “gang” tackle, but the offense could not assist a running back in gaining yardage. Finally the rules were changed to allow other offensive players could assist a running back. This was a great example of why that rule change enacted.. I loved it and it helps prevent injuries to the ball carriers

It sure looked like it did (briefly) about halfway through that run. I've seen it blown dead for that before. I'm not trying to be contrary because we score on the next play imo. We usually get the wrong end of that deal though.
Refs were late on the whistle all night. I was afraid someone was going to get hurt. Luckily no one did.

If you look at the field level cam....his feet were not even on the ground. KY had picked his legs up before we started pushing.....lol

We score on the next play but that one should have been blown dead. We would have gone nuts had we been on defense.

You’re right.
But remember that damn lull in end of the 1st qtr- mid 2nd qtr where either a whistle was being blown for penalty, or a timeout was called, or a player was injured…seriously that lasted for like 35 mins with commercial breaks. I had to turn the damn game because it was absolutely frustrating to watch.

My point- the refs eventually were just letting them play because the game had to speed up and the teams needs to start a real flow to the game.

YEP, we’re at least consistent. As I stated somewhere earlier, go back to his early fumble play and progress was JUST as stopped when they had him engulfed and reached in to pry the secured ball from his grasp. That replay was just as clear.

Elite play, wanted it more , classic record breaking
Nico on the play drops low drives a shoulder into a UK DL. That’s the sort of thing that can’t be coached and makes your teammates love you. Mays was superb on that play as well.

At some point he HAS to be mentioned for consensus all American at least. Dude may wind up with 1500+ yards and 25-30 rushing TDs.
only if they give out two RBs. its going to be the Jeanty kid from Boise. he has better stats than Sampson, but he is playing in the Mountain west, sooooo I would say its a push...

I think it was a sign that this team loves to compete and you saw that while two of Kentuckys biggest lineman WATCHED as their teammates got pushed into the end zone.

Tennessee just wanted it more.

All time classic…. . Leave it to some to bring up the “Should of could of”
in a thread to celebrate a great play.
