I don’t disagree with any of your points there. Small sample size or not we still haven’t put together a complete game on the road. We’ve made some pretty mediocre QBs look fantastic against us as well. There isn't much sample size. What you're really saying is ... they struggled at Florida.
The 1st half against Alabama is the best we've looked all season .... as far as the 2nd half is concerned? That's a different animal than playing in Columbia, Missouri.
This game will go the way Tennessee's Red Zone Offense goes. We are only scoring TD's on 51% of our Red Zone possessions 19 for 37. In comparison, Missouri is at 69%, Oregon 79%, Florida 75%. If we had scored TDs at that clip, we win the Bama game and the Kentucky game isn't close. We only scored 1 TD in 4 Red Zone possessions against the Wildcats. Two of our TDs and one of the field goals came from outside the Red Zone. I didn't go back and analyze the Bama game but my recollection is it would have been similar. I won't pretend to know what the solution is, but not getting penalties, and giving up sacks might help. Get the ball in the end zone when we get close and we beat Missouri....badly! GBOCook is completing 68% of his passes vs P5 opponents, Joe is at 66%. If you take out Vandy for Cook and UVA for Joe, who both barely qualify as P5, Cook is completing 64% of his passes vs P5 competition and Joe is completing 65%. Against common opponents (SCar and UK) Joe completed 74% of his passes for 467 yards, Cook completed 63% of his passes for 380 yards. I’m clueless as to where this narrative comes from that he’s a stud. He’s yet to play a defense comparable to AM let alone Bama; he’s made a living feasting off of weak competition.
Better runner as in throwing on the run? His running stats don’t remotely support the notion that he’s a better runner than Milton. Milton has less carries for 2x the yards. Even if you take Milton’s 81 yard run out, he’s ahead of Cook in total yards and YPR.Agree to a point but I also really like Cook and wish the Vols had him. IMO, his greatest asset is his ability to break the pocket and run. He's a better runner than Milton and very comparable to Hooker. UT has to pressure him. But they also have to spy him to keep contain. He has some skills that make it hard on you.
I don't think they'll run the ball well against UT unless Cook breaks off some runs. That's great as long as Banks doesn't overreact to Mizzou's run game like he did UK's.. The Vols MUST play tighter coverage than they did vs Leary.
I truly hope that Joe turned the corner... but right now that's just hope.
Thanks for posting the stats. I didn’t watch all of the KY-Missouri game, but my impression from what I saw was that Leary sucked. If he played like he did against us, KY would have gotten the win.Leary was 14-27 for 120 yards and 2 INTs against Missouri (he also had 2 TDs).
Leary played his game of the year against us, not so much against Missouri.
Watch him run. He looks to have as good or better straight line speed. He's definitely quicker and more natural as a runner. Honestly the UT game from last year shows it pretty good. Run stats for QBs are hard since sack yardage is counted. Not sure why CFB doesn't match the NFL and count sacks toward passing yardage.Better runner as in throwing on the run?
