The SEC vs. Everyone else

No, you argued that a dominant DT would be irrelevant to the outcome of the game.

Yup, and I was wrong. No problem admitting that. I had too much faith in our offensive line and too much faith in Kelly's gameplan. It is what it is. I'm not blind to admit that we seem to get dominated by great defensive lines, and Kelly will need to prove to me otherwise before I annoint him as an elite coach.

We tried to go inside too often, and when we went outside, they had enough speed to contain us. I underestimated their front 7.

The SEC's best team and the Pac 10's best team were pretty even this year.

I was pulling for Oregon, but what game were you watching? even Stevie Wonder saw Oregon getting manhandled up front by Auburn's D. It looked like men against boys in the trenches. the game was not as close as the score indicated.
it was similar to 2008 Oklahoma-Florida NC game. Oklahoma gaining some yards in the open field, then simply getting stuffed in the red zone. both 2008 Oklahoma and 2010 Oregon led the nation in scoring offense. Oregon averaged 49 points per game but was about to walk away with 11 points total (0 point shut down for the final 45 minutes) if it wasn't for Cam's fumble late in the 4th quarter.
Auburn was clearly the better team, and the game I watched was a proof that these games are won at the line of scrimmage.

And Oregons d made cam newton look average after he spent a full season single handedly abusing the rest of the SEC.

Everybody here knows I hate the ducks but why am I one of the few saying they stood a reasonable shot at winning that game?

Did you turn off the 2003 Fiesta Bowl before they threw the pass interference flag? Wouldn't blame you, since it took about 15 seconds.

He may have been talking about '91. I believe the Canes were in the Big East that year as well. Sorry I cant be exact that was a long time ago and i dont feel like looking it up haha.

I was. They won titles while in the Big East in '91 and 2001. And of course 2002 is a joke.

Im not as mad about 02 as I am 00. Its one think to have a disputed call cost you a title. That can go either way and you can shake your head but to absolutely destroy the team that gets to play for the title (knowing you have the same record as them) is an absolute sham. If the BCS was never invented, Miami Hurricanes would have at least 2 more national championships. (In 02 we would have played some team in the Orange bowl winning the coaches and Ohio St would have played some Pac 10 pansy in the Rose getting the AP)

Sorry, but missing two wide open TD passes had nothing to do with what Oregon was doing. When your QB fails to hit you when you're literally standing alone in the end zone, it's the QB's fault, and the QB's alone.

Destroy? Wasn't that Wide Right III?

Either way, why would Miami go over Washington? They had the same record and I think they gave two unbeaten teams their only loss.

Oregon had their share of chokes, too.

Everyone else! Why root for the SEC when it is our rivals pulling further ahead of us by winning championships. I will worry about how the SEC is viewed when we are at the top again.

Yes, Miami won by 3. Miami was ranked higher than FSU and Washington in both polls.

it was weird I tell you. Auburn kicked a field goal at the end, but it felt like a blowout. from 2nd quarter on, I never believed once that the Ducks stood a chance. It was like a 3 point blow out which is weird. Auburn did leave a lot of points on the field though and they gained more yards than their season average.
it sort of reminded me of 2009 UT Kentucky game at Lexington. UT dominated especially in the second half and was clearly the better team, but ended up going to overtime. sometimes games like this happen where scoreboard don't really tell the whole story.

It really was a pretty evenly matched game. A low quality one nobody will care about in the long run, but evenly matched.

Well now I agree with you there to an extent. Remember this; The teams this league send out in the post season, especially to the BCS games represent the level of competition this league plays at. Sure that doesn't mean that we are any better for it but as a fan of an SEC school I do take exception when the talking heads try to make any sort of case against this being the toughest conference in football. This post wasn't about UT at all, it was about the league as a whole, as much as we hate the other schools in this league we still tune in to watch their games against each other (not just against us) because frankly it's better ball being played than anywhere else on a Saturday. Ask yourself which would you rather attend in person; Ole Miss vs. Georgia or Illinois vs. Iowa? Each one of those teams is pretty low on their respective conference totem polls, no one has any reason to watch either but put yourself in a casual football fan's shoes for a moment and think about it.
