I overall was highly impressed with Tobias' stat line. He did it all and shot a pretty decent percentage. He really is starting to look like Mr. Reliable

Scotty on the other hand jacking up that many three pointers, regardless if he makes them or not is a concern. He also turned the ball over five times. I am very high on Scotty and have defended him all year, but this is not what I want to see out of him, I really don't think he can consistently hit from outside.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Hopson and what he has shown these last few games. Let's hope it continues.

Hopson's turnovers are more concerning to me than anything.

10. They announced the attendance at over 19,000. Not even close, I would say around 13,000-14,000 in attendance if that.

I really wish Scotty had handles. Good write-up BTW

Yeah, I agree and I find Scotty's semi-precarious handle to be a rather perplexing phenomenon. He appears to be quite coordinated in all facets of the game...except for that pesky dribbling part.

And good points all around, hat.

Just poor hands in general. Catches poorly as well.

Here are some of my thoughts from watching it on TV...comment if you like.

1. I am really starting to like what Stephen Pearl is bringing to the team. I don't think his minutes need to increase anymore than what he is getting now, but I feel like everytime he comes in the game everyone on the floors intensity gets turned up a notch and he is really starting to develop some quick hands for steals.

2. Hopson would be flat out unstoppable if he could just be a little bit more careful with the ball as he tries to get into the lane. If he beats his guy with his first step he doesn't have any trouble but if he has to make a move to get by him then it is almost a guarantee he will dribble off his leg. I don't know if that can be coached out of him or if he just doesn't have the capability to be a good ball handler.

3. Goins just continues to play shut down D. When he was in the game you can tell a distinct difference in his defensive pressure compared to Golden.

4. Obviously as stated Harris is the most polished Freshman I have seen in the SEC in some time. He isn't as flashy as a John Wall but he plays beyond his years for sure. We will be lucky to get 2 years out of him.

5. I expect a little bit of a reality check in Pittsburgh. I think we play good D and keep it close but, for as good as this teams been playing I expect our weaknesses (turnovers, not a great shooting team) to be exposed in our first big time road game for a lot of our players. Hope I am wrong.

I hope this is different but I'm still very cautious to believe it, I feel like we've seen this from Hopson during the beginning of the season before.

1. MTSU left the floor as the color guard was coming on for the Anthem. Again, that's simply low rent.

VolNation should keep up with every team that does this and start a new forum. A forum to make sure people are aware of what is going on.A forum indicating disrespect that is taking place. A forum that shows the disrespect the coach and school allow it to continue.

An impressive performance when a let-down was likely. This team has made great strides since the early season. I think Hall will get more minutes as the season goes on. I'm wondering if the plan is to redshirt McRae as he is getting no playing time. Pearl says that his son will likely have minutes at the three as Maymon becomes eligible, assuming that Maymon can beat out Pearl for minutes at the 4 position.

3. I can see why Syracuse so coveted Tobias Harris. He's straight out of the Billy Owens/John Wallace/Wes Johnson mold that has served them so well.
4. Good to see hitting some threes didn't make Scotty Hopson go jumper crazy. His best offensive weapon is, and will always be, his first step to the basket.

3. Not sure if this was your find or someone else's, but thank you for finding an apt player comparison for Tobias. This is by far the closest I've seen for him. And not a bad role model at all for Tobias.

4. Yes, but he needs to keep it simple on that first step to the rack. A stutter step or pump fake is all he needs to get by his man most of the time. He turns it over when he tries to do too much.

3. Zagsblog.

4. Agree. Golden's behind the back backwards pass was irritating as well. The AND1 plays are lots of fun when we are up 30, but until then I hope they focus on doing the basic things correctly.

Thus the "in general."
Other than Oliver Miller, who are all these fat guys with great hands? Barkley's were average at best. Hot Plate Williams had great hands before he became a blob. Billy Owens and Derrick Coleman neither saw their ability to catch the ball improve as their waist lines expanded. Don't remember guys like Gary Payton and Jason Kidd having much blubber.

I think that'll change as he gets healthy. My gut is that he'll be playing more than Fields by the time SEC play starts.

In your estimation, how far off are the Vols from being a truly elite team? TIA.

I would appreciate anyones response to this question. :hi:

Not far at all. They'd be there now if it weren't for their ballhandling and perimeter shooting limitations.

You think that they could get there this year? I'd think that the players UT loses would cause a drop off in defense, and Pearl possibly being gone makes the future unclear.
