The Section 103 Postgame Report

I remember hearing the same silliness last year. They came far closer to sweeping UT than vice versa.

Not to mention that last year the SEC was stronger, and they played most of the season without Meeks and the back half of the season without Patterson.

There is no part of Ramar's game that is better than Maze's. Well, unless you include flying out of control down the lane. Maze plays under control, is piling up a respectable number of assists with fewer turnovers than Ramar, shoots free throws infinitely better, and has more upside. Ramar just got worse all of last year, and showed no signs of improving.

I was only debating Ramar's abilty to get to the basket...Maze needs to do it more

I never debated any other part of his game was better so your post is pretty worthless

What? What games have you watched? Yes he can - he just isn't as good as drawing contact... Ramar was just a lot more physical with his bigger body... I'm not sure how you can say he can't get to the basket as well... when he doesn't try as much as he needs to. From what I've seen - Maze has done very well at penetrating.. but his flaw is not doing it enough and isn't as good at drawing the foul.

First, I admitted I don't follow the bball team as much as some of you guys...

Second, Maze has not shown ME he can or will go to the basket like I saw Ramar do at times! I also wish Maze would look to penetrate more.

I think everyone agrees he should more. He's been very successful - even when he pulls up for a mid range shot he nails it. But I just am not seeing how Ramar is better at getting to the basket just because Maze is trying to be unselfish (too unselfish) and a good teammate and let the other guys step up.

I don't think Ramar is quicker than Maze off the dribble. I think Ramar could muscle his way past 2-3 guys and make it to the basket better since he is built like a running back and can keep his balance well - but if its 1v1 or just 1v1 and then some help in the lane I don't see why Ramar is better at that. Ramar just seemed like a very good athlete rather than a basketball player - was very raw.

Wrong and mostly wrong.

I couldn't find anything that was made public that ever stated any type of drug usage done by Ramar. Other than the people on this forum that say they have smoked dope with him at parties.

The only point that I am trying to make is that I firmly believe that Ramar's inability to progress as a player and Pearl's belief that he could not lead this team past the sweet 16 with Ramar at the point had more to do with him not dressed in orange than his dope smoking habits or academic issues.

The fact that the SEC would have more than likely ruled him ineligible at some point this year didn't help his cause.

Then why is Ryan Childress still wasting a scholarship if that was the case?

Who said that?

You think Pearl will try to redshirt him, so he can keep him around next year? Anyway good point.

With Ramar on the roster, I think Pearl knew that he couldn't get Bobby Maze.

I don't think there is any debate that part of our ineptitude against the zone is our inability to get to the middle. We don't pass it in there and we don't have someone who can beat people to get there, so we leave the most vulnerable spot as simply a vulnerable spot. It should be a place to instigate offense.

We have at least 3 someones that can beat people and get to the middle - Maze, Prince, and Smith. They should do it more often, and more players should test the waters.

Ramar only got to the basket more because he had a tendency to be a ball hog on occasion. Plus, once he got to the basket, he bricked most of his layups and never kicked the ball out to wide open three point shooters.

I actually like Maze better off the dribble than Ramar, but he has very visibly been trying to overcome his reputation of being selfish with the ball. However, when he does drive, he scores or gets to the free throw line more often than not. Ramar can't say the same thing.

Not to mention, why would you say you would rather have Ramar just because of one aspect of his game (which didn't really benefit the team in the first place because nothing ever came of it)? It seems to me that you'll have better luck finding worthless posts if you look next to your own name.

I'll take this a step further: if we didn't have Maze, and still had Ramar, I'd rather have Josh Tabb running the point right now.

You've done nothing to change my mind. I'd like to see Maze take it to the bucket more often. Still worthless.

Because they had two experienced guards that were kicking our butts before last year too.. they dont have anything of the sort this season

Which is why you will never be a basketball coach.

Damn. And here I was, about to fax my resume to the Auburn athletic department. They hired Gene Chizik, after all.

Oh well. I didn't really want to live in Auburn, anyway. Who would?

There is absolutely no doubt he was bad at the end of the year. However, I believe we can all agree that we saw flashes.

If by flashes you mean flashes of average with the majority of play being below par. Face it, he's not a good PG.

Ramar was a sg forced to play pg. He never really picked it up that well. It is what it is. Some people learn as they are forced to be a pg (Tabb). Some don't.
