And do it equally as poorly as he does the rest of them. Might mug for the cameras a hair less.

I doubt it. A camera is a camera to Teddy. As soon as he sees some parent with a hand held, his act will kick into overdrive.

Back to the issue at hand. In the game thread a number of people were complaining about the ineffectiveness of the press. What are the specific issues? Just laziness or do we not lack the personnel to do it?

As I said after the first exhibition, I don't think this team is quick enough to press with any level of effectiveness.

Isn't that essentially the worst possible news? I don't see how we improve much over last year if we're stuck playing a halfassed half court game.

There's no legitimate reason this team can't be really good in the halfcourt defensively.

What would it take to get Tennessee to be one of the schools that freezes out Ted Valentine? It's something that should be looked into.

I really thought we would get back to pressing and forcing teams to play at our tempo and in a way Pearl is comfortable with. Don't get me wrong I like CBP, but I think he has a very narrow strategic window in which to work effectively. He presses, he gets cheap points, his guys enjoy the frenetic pace and the energy, and it flusters the opponent. It just suits his personality. Maybe at some point in his history he won without playing that way, but he just doesn't strike me as a walk it up, run a set, and play lockdown defense kind of coach.

Not bashing CBP in any way, just kind of disappointed we don't seem to have the players to play the way he clearly wants and needs to play. Plus I just enjoy the press.

Yeah, I like the press, too. However, most coaches operate this way. They establish their style and just modify it for their personell, which is what Pearl will have to do.

I liked when that LMU player almost mowed over one of the referees after the late whistle going the other way.

By the way, what is Woolridge doing out there? What position is he supposed to be playing?

I didn't see any laziness in the half court d tonight at any point. We had constant ball pressure. Players in the passing lanes anticipating the next pass.

We still have our moments, and I want to wait-n-see after last year.

Hearing Bobby Maze say after this exhibition that he is going to "get in shape" because he was tired pressing, I feel somewhat concerned.

Melvin Goins is impacted by recently having surgery on his knee. He will get better as the season goes on.

McBee is as fun as can be to watch.

I thought we were lackadaisical in the first half defensively. I thought the pressure was much better in the second half.

wish i had watched the game, since i used to attend UNA. regardless, this is still a sweet 16 team guaranteed and final four if we play to potential.

This doesn't sound promising. Stuck with Teddy V and we're still too slow to press. My question is are they capable of executing in the half court? The team seemed rather undisciplined last year, hope that doesn't continue.

I made a call hat, Black Betty should have no more problems with said child.

Every year it's the same. The guys look a little sloppy in an exhibition game and all of the sudden everybody's wringing their hands with worry.

Give them time.

Hat, I always enjoy these reports. Can you give us a floor/ceiling type assessment of this team? It seems like they are improved somewhat, but what does that mean for their record/postseason performance for this season?
