I thought this was well written and well reasoned.

JP Prince continues to step forward in a way that I attribute to his reading my thread about him on this message board.

It was nice that he did so well including taking 3 charges in front of his parents.

Ehh... I'll believe he is stepping it up when I see him play a team that is worth a damn.

1. Not that I needed any other reason to loathe Heath Schroyer, but I got one. Not having your team on the floor for the playing of the National Anthem is inexcusable.
2. While I'm hammering the Wyoming Weasel, on what planet is it a good idea to have a midget trying to inbound the ball against guys 6'6" and taller? Steve McClain is certainly smarter than that.
3. As always, Wyoming will win some conference games in Laramie. That won't change the fact they'll finish no better than 5th in the MWC.
4. I'll give UT a pass on the first half. A bad opponent, a lackluster crowd, and exams are a formula for a slow start.
5. The defense was not bad. Holding a team with a couple of decent offensive options under 60 is acceptable.
6. The movement in the halfcourt offense was better. The excecution was not.
7. It says volumes about Maze and Goins that Pearl is increasingly playing them off the ball and putting someone else at the top of the offense. The point guard play is no better than it was last season.
8. I'm beginning to believe Tatum is never going to fully recover his spring off the floor. He's playing well, but still comes up short getting over the rim at least once a game.
9. Saturday should be interesting. There's no way the game should be close, but a halfassed effort will create a mess.
10. Hopefully, a sold out FedEx Forum will get this team enthused. They're just assembly line beating bad teams right now.

5.) I thought the second half was about the best half-court defense I have seen played under Pearl. Wyoming was never able to get into a resemblance of an offense. I think they scored 18 pts the entire half. If we can maintain that level of intensity against some of the better teams, I think we will see some nice results.

6.) They finally started doing something that I have been saying all season. They got into their sets with about 20 seconds left on the clock, and they let Tyler Smith control the ball a lot in the halfcourt. This takes away from some of the ineffectiveness of our pgs. I also thought Prince distributed the ball nicely. Both Prince and Smith have more playmaking ability that Maze or Goins.

Nice break-down Hat. This teams slow start keeps the games interesting. Seems like Brian Williams manages to miss a simple lay up every other game. I expect Memphis to be fired up with revenge.

I agree completely. The second half defense was exceptional and took Wyoming completely out of any offense. Prince is coming around and will contribute to the success of this team. He may never be a great scorer, but he distributes the ball as well or better than anyone except Tyler.

Memphis beat UT last year.

Maybe the fact that they won will fill them with revenge, or perhaps their loss in football. I know they fully expected to win that game.

I don't think that there is any doubt that you are solely responsible for JP's improved play the last couple of games.

Thanks BVF.

I plan on making a Woolridge post yet but I have not found my flow for just the right rap/post to get him to start looking more like dad and less like a taller Vegas Davis.

Good points.

Regarding 5) I had the same thought about our halfcourt D in the second half. The intensity was good. It was the lack of consistent offensive execution that prevented us from opening this one up a little more.

Regarding 6) Again, I was thinking the same thing. The offense runs very nicely with Tyler serving as a kind of point-forward. I would like to see more of that.

It looks great against teams with mediocre personnel defending Smith. Try that against a team with a Devin Ebanks or a Quincy Pondexter to pressure the ball and it will be a disaster.

or an Earl Clark, Terrance Williams? Still haunts me..
That's exactly the point I'm making. Trying to be cute and playing forwards at the point is cute against the Wyomings and Ashevilles of the world. It's not near as attractive against the teams that matter.

I was going along with what you were saying. I was a believer of all the "Tyler is a point guard" hype until that game. Boy did I get a wake up call.

I wouldn't call it trying to be cute. I would call it a realization that our pg's are not world-beaters, and that maybe a point-forward could be an attractive option.

Maybe Tyler doesn't have the skillset to make it the most attractive option. But I wouldn't write it off as a gimmick. TWill played the role quite well last year for Pitino's crew.

But TWill was a scoring option like Tyler is not. People are backing off Tyler to stop the drive and dish. It will get worse.

I think you are giving Mr. Williams too much credit. Great all around player, he was. Pure scorer, he was not.

Was that Jeremy Roenick behind UT's bench? Am I the only one that would recognize Jeremy Roenick?
I saw him. I heard on the radio that he was there was well so that confirmed it. Anyone know why he was there? That was pretty random.

But he posed the threat. He could go off. Tyler has regressed so far as an offensive player, that he just doesn't pose that threat.
