I wouldn't call it trying to be cute. I would call it a realization that our pg's are not world-beaters, and that maybe a point-forward could be an attractive option.

Maybe Tyler doesn't have the skillset to make it the most attractive option. But I wouldn't write it off as a gimmick. TWill played the role quite well last year for Pitino's crew.
Williams was generally on the floor with three other guys the offense could run through. Smith doesn't have that luxury. Wait til you see the defensive Hell Kansas, Kentucky, and Ole Miss throw at him if Pearl attempts to use him as the primary ballhandler against them.

Memphis beat UT last year.

I guess I was thinking the last time they played at the Forum in Memphis. TBA 4 point win by Tigers and UT 2 points at Memphis.I guess there's just not too many big games we have through the past and I try to hold on to them............I didn't know Prince's dad or someone was affiliated with Grizzly's. Think I heard that correctly.

But he posed the threat. He could go off. Tyler has regressed so far as an offensive player, that he just doesn't pose that threat.
Just a thought here. I remember a week or two ago that Pearl was asked about Tyler's reluctancy to take the open three (or jumper) and he said Tyler's confidence was a little down on his outside shot, but he worked hard over the summer and had confidence then.

The other thing I am going to tie into this is the schedule and the effort that has gone into some of these games (as has been discussed in other threads).

Isn't it possible that the team (and/or coaches) are holding a little bit back in order to have some options that aren't scoutable due to lack of game tape?

Maybe I'm giving this team and its coaches too much credit, but it seems this is possible.

Ok. I guess my two main points are that Smith will not be this quiet (bad?) all year and rotational tinkering will be set come Memphis St. or KU. The lack of continuos playing time for the top 8 usually becomes less of an issue as the conference schedule gets rolling.

I just hope Wooldridge keeps getting minutes. He looks like he is becoming a great post player---just needs more opportunity.

We've been watching different games. I've liked Renaldo since the beginning, bu there's no way he should be seeing significant minutes this season.

He needed a shot. He was physically gifted, though.

Yeah, he was (is) about as athletic as they come. Tyler's athleticism is certainly noteworthy, but TWill's was off the charts.

Slightly tangential, butTWill actually had a really good looking jump shot. Great form. It just didn't go in much. In fact, TWill's jumpshot had the worst form/results ratio of any I have ever seen. Lack of reps is my speculative explanation.

Tyler, on the other hand, does not have a pretty jumpshot at all. Quite the opposite really. Sort of unnatural looking.

I actually haven't been terribly impressed with what I have seen from Kentucky's defensively. But your point is valid.

That's exactly the point I'm making. Trying to be cute and playing forwards at the point is cute against the Wyomings and Ashevilles of the world. It's not near as attractive against the teams that matter.

I agree that you don't want Smith actually running the point and bringing the ball up the floor. But I think the more he can handle the ball in the halfcourt, the better the offense will be. I have much more faith in T.Smith making others better than Goins or Maze by a long shot. I'm not saying it's perfect; I'm just saying it's our best option.

Smith and JP do the best job of distributing the ball and setting up others--much better than our point guards.
