The shut down thread

Both sides needs to talk. You can't go in to the talks saying "no wall means I leave" or go in to the talks saying "ask for a wall and I leave."

As for the pictures, I'm sure while Washington DC is a sh!thole, the cost of living is asinine. But if you don't have a sick husband, wife, kid etc you should have a rainy day fund making federal money.

Thanks for making my point, albeit unwittingly.

Clinton won the popular vote by 2.1% and she was ahead in the polls by an average of 3.2%, well within the margin of error.

Statistical analysis and polling science is not a predictor, it simply represents peoples opinions as a snapshot in time. The polls were remarkably accurate despite you and your ilk continually repeating that they represented something that was wildly different from reality.

The now pulled Chevrolet ads that proved Chevys were more reliable were based on a poll, too. They asked if a car had had to have any components replaced within a certain time frame. That time frame just happened to include the period during which the Takata airbag inflators found in most other brands were being replaced. Polls are only as good and unbiased as the questions they ask, and that all too frequently is designed to influence rather than learn. Just the fact that you structure a poll and don't let someone fully explain his reasoning includes bias. Garbage in = garbage out.

My daughter is a furloughed federal worker. There are several eating establishments nice enough to feed them for free. They go and hang out because they are FURLOUGHED!! (not because they are broke)
Tweet is ignorant clickbait and you fell for it.
I wonder if they feed private sector employees that are 'furloughed' for free. Why in the hell does anybody care so much for government bureaucrats so ****ing much? Every one is paid from YOUR taxes.

Sorry for your daughter's plight, but it is a really good job market right now. Is she looking elsewhere? If not... why not?

The claim was disputed by Toyota is what I read.

Anyway, apples and oranges - the general election national polls were absolutely and unequivocally accurate. They showed exactly what they were designed to show, nothing more, nothing less. This fact isn't disputable.

Listen, I get that facebook memes and Fox got a big LOL out of making false comparisons of polls done in 2015 showing Hillary's commanding lead but the hard reality is that at the end, it was a tight race and the polls bore that out.

It's a picture. No clicking required.

If this is going as many think, this is a brilliant way to downsize. I know for a fact that it’s very hard to fire a federal employee. Trump is a ***** genius.

She is bottom of the food chain and only working for a year before she starts law school. Already been accepted at two top 25 law schools. Waiting on more acceptances in the spring.
She is making more $$ as a "Rover" dog walker, during furlough, than she makes at her gov job.

Not just the national, but the state polling too. On the eve of the election, the RCP average in all the swing states showed Donald either in the lead or within the MOE. Did he have to thread a needle, so to speak, to win? Yes, because he needed all or almost all of those swing states to win. Hillary just needed a couple. Trump had much less wiggle room. The polls were right; most of those pontificating on them were wrong. They were talking about a team that should have been a 7-10 point underdog as though they were a 28 point underdog. The great enduring myth about that election is that the polls were all wrong.

You know that polls are highly dependent upon the targeted audience, and even if there isn't precise target they are still highly influenced by the people a pollster can get to respond. I know I sure as hell don't answer the phone much these days unless I know who is calling, and a mailed survey is DRT - dead right there - learned that technical term from my wife ... she's a nurse. With the animosity between non-libs and the news, I'd think most people conducting an exit poll might be more likely to get a screw you and the horse you rode in on than a real response.

Great another lawyer, just what the world needs.....

"dead right there" ain't no medical "technical term" I've ever heard of. Appears to be EMT slang.

Anyway, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. The polls were accurate, you can try and make a case that they weren't but it'd be what the Trump brand uses as a "technical term" for when reality isn't congruent with their made up narrative, alternative facts.

Sorry man, the numbers don't lie.

I know right.........she is one of the most sought after law students because she is a Spanish major and can write/explain documents in Spanish. She has already spent two semesters in Valencia. Wants to be corp attorney for American company that has offices over there.

At least she is pursuing a useful use of her degree. Best of luck to her.

Yeah you’re right, otherwise why would Hillary say “ if that bastard wins, we all will hang from nooses”. She knew it was gonna be a nail biter.

I know the numbers don't lie, but often pollsters do. I assume that within a campaign, for example, the candidate and his staff want to know the real numbers; but I also assume that they can see the value in either claiming to be behind to stoke their flock or with a commanding lead to entice everyone else to go with a winner. My point is that even if the pollsters do their best to be impartial and accurate, there is absolutely no way they can get equal representation across the demographic spectrum. Some people won't respond and others you can't shut up.

EMTs and ER nurses do tend to talk to each other on occasion.

I'm glad that we can agree that the polls were accurate.

Do you still beat your wife - that's just a yes or no? We need to know so that we can scientifically determine whether most American married males admit to continuing the practice or have changed because of pressure by progressives to be more sensitive.
