The shut down thread

The general concept is that society invariably progresses. People who want things to stay the same or be like they used to be are the people that are conservative.

By that logic, all scientific advances, economic changes, social changes, etc can only come as a result of liberal politics. That's simply not the case.

This is the problem with politics nowadays. People are incapable of getting their heads around the fact that we can have the exact same goals, yet disagree on the best course of action on how to get there.

All progress and advancement is not due to liberal politics. That is not the logical extension of what I said. (at least that wasn't my intent)

I agree with your second point but it gets complex in a hurry. I think trump would say his goal is to have a clean and healthy environment. The battle has to be in the way he claims that can be achieved. The goal of having good and affordable health care for all citizens is an easy one to agree on. How to reach that goal is where the battle takes place. The goal of having a fair and equitable tax system is an easy one to agree on. What that actually means and how to reach that goal is where the battle takes place. Goal setting is the easy part.

They (the Dem idiots) said that they would move out of this country if he was elected President. So, what's the hold up on that. Are they liars like all Dems that follow only the DNC talking points for their lives?

Why arent they all moving to Haiti, or Africa? Nice places they want to stick up for!..hmm

Technically, he objected to voting at 10 PM tonight, but did not object to a procedural vote at noon tomorrow. They reconvene at 10 AM.

No. Technically, he objected. Period. The government continues to be shut down

Probably wanted to catch The Notebook on Lifetime for a good cry to start the week..

That’s to make sure he could lie on al of the morning shows prior to the vote

Can't figure out what the Democrats are really gaining here if they cut a deal based on just a commitment to consider DACA?

Do you know what's in it?

Basically McConnell is saying fund the govt. until Feb. 8th and if nothing has been agreed regarding immigration (DACA), they will move immigration to the floor.

In other words he is giving the Dems his word, it will be up for them to decide if they trust him I guess.

They must be aligning with their propaganda wing in the media. Trying to make DACA into a fiscal issue? It’s so absurd yet they still get cover from the media

Not completely. Haven't heard details.

I'm for the CR for 3 weeks with chip included. Give them 3 weeks for DACA. The stink was raised about the ineptitude to do anything. Give them one task. They were working on the tax bill trying to get every greedy politician on board for the last 4 months so "a man's gotta eat"

This is what McConnell said in his words tonight.

He said if the government is open, “it would be my intention to proceed to legislation that would address DACA, border security, and related issues."

"It is also my intention to take up legislation regarding increased defense funding, disaster relief, and other important matters," he said. "Importantly, when I proceed to the immigration debate, it will have an amendment process that is fair to all sides.”

I don't trust him. Period! But it must be done. The cards are on the table now unless someone has a pocket ace.

Missed my chance to say CHIPs.

It says clearly what I meant for it to say. The majority of Americans vote democrat.

Your talking points are showing. Bill Clinton never gained 50% of even the popular vote while voter turnout hovered in the mid 50's during 92 and 96. He didn't win a majority. He won a plurality. Obama did win more than 50% of votes registered, but this is again based on turnout slightly above 60%. He registered in the low 30's based on total eligible voters. Neither party can claim a majority of Americans, and it's not even close.
