THE SKY IS NOT FALLING

I ain't buying no excuses.

A lot of hard working Tennessee football fans paid hard earned money to watch the Vols lay down, roll over, and beg for a belly rub.

GTFO if you think people will ever load up and travel for that **** ever again. Not until the Vols beat Alabama, Florida, and Georgia on the road.

Not until they win some big road games. I won't be traveling to get embarrassed by a team that lays down with no fight.

I am going on 55 years and I have been a die hard my whole life. I always will be, but no way I will spend money on that ****.
Thats the price you pay for trusting 18-23 year old athletes with your “hard earned money”. Players don’t owe you anything as a fan regardless of the amount you spend to watch them play.

Fans have shown up from Ohio, Baton Rouge to Miami to watch them play. They’ll be fine, we have the watch from here. Thank you for your years of service.

Trip to Ohio wasn’t terrible as far as expense. I spent more on home games. Now that drive sucked, not gonna lie there. Met some great people though, had a good time seeing the team.
Had a great experience and as I told my kids as we left the stadium and they were being grateful for being there…”glad we got to experience it together, I’ll get the money back but not the time with you guys here (19 & 21 years of age).”

Met some great fans from all over Tennessee

Man this football forum is so doom and gloom right now. Yes we got absolutely embarrassed Saturday night. Yes I was angry at players, coaches, and the world for about 24 hours. But after really taking in the situation and taking a step back I feel like we have had an insanely great season that so many people are taking for granted. People are talking about CJH not being the guy, us never being able to be elite for this reason or that, even contemplating their fandom (which is unfathomable to me) because we just won 10 games and made the CFP but were embarrassed by Ohio State in our worst game of the season by far. Fun fact, Peyton Manning's last game of his Tennessee career, a Vol legend and whom many consider the greatest QB to ever play at UT, was a 42-17 blowout loss to Nebraska. Nico is a redshirt FREASHMAN. But I see many people say how Nico will never be a great player?

Lets breakdown a few of the first seasons for the best QBs in recent Tennessee History shall we?

Peyton Manning (Freshman Year) - 11 games, 61% completion percentage, 1141 Pass Yards, 11 Tds, 6 Ints, -23 yards Rush, 1 Rush Td, 8-4 record

Josh Dobbs (Junior Year) - 13 games, 2291 Pass Yards, 59% Completion Percentage, 15 Pass TDs, 5 Ints, 469 Rush Yards, 8 Rush Tds, 9 - 4 Record (Dobbs had played in 10 games for UT at this point and ended the previous year as the starter)

Hendon Hooker (Sophomore at VT) - 11 games, 61% completion percentage 1555 Pass yards, 13 Pass Tds, 2 Ints, 356 rush yards, 5 Rush Tds, 8 - 5 Record

Nico Iamaleava (Redshirt Freshman) - 13 games, 2616 pass yards, 63.8% completion percentage, 19 tds, 5 ints, 358 Rush yards, 3 Tds, 10 - 3 Record (Yes I get the Defense was awesome this year at times for him)

Now lets check out how Coach Josh Heupel Compares in his first 4 seasons versus some of UT's Best in their first 4 seasons.

Phillip Fulmer - 1992: 4 -4, 1993: 9 - 2, 1994: 8 - 4, 1995: 11 - 1

Johnny Majors - 1977: 4 - 7, 1978: 5 -5. 1979: 7 - 5, 1980: 5 - 6

Josh Heupel - 2021: 7 - 6, 2022: 11 - 2, 2023: 9 - 4, 2024 10 - 3 - All while being under pretty insane NCAA sanctions that greatly restricted his recruiting especially in the first two seasons of his tenure

We are also still under those sanctions till 2028 although most of the impact was already dealt with in 2021 and 2022.

Josh Heupels 2022 recruiting class with Nico was also Tennessee's First Top Ten class since 2015. LET ALL THAT SINK IN.

Was the Ohio State game a huge disappointment? Yes. Did the defense have one of their worst games of the year? Yes. Did the team have one of their worst games of the year? Yes.

But we were without our best player Dylan Sampson, with less athleticism, coming off stretch where our first top ten class in 7 years is just now at the most sophomores and we have been hampered in recruiting, on the road, at night, against a really good team despite the Michigan loss. They played really good and we played really really bad. There is a talent gap imo and there is a money gap. We undoubtably have to spend more in NIL I agree. But also these powerhouse programs take time to build and we need to stack recruiting classes together. Other programs like LSU spent about the same as OSU did in NIL as well but had way worse of a season so is that really the issue? I think only time will tell. We aren't there but we are close and if you take a step back and look at the numbers we actually might be in the best position statistically we ever have been, outside of the General of course. So no the sky is not falling and Josh Heupel has this program in an incredible spot right now with some serious dudes coming in down the line. It wasn't the ending we all wanted but at the end of the day. I didn't expect to win a national championship this year, but my goal for the team was for them to make the playoffs and we even beat Bama and Florida in the process. HELL OF A SEASON in my opinion and Nico and the boys will only get better! There is a BRIGHT future on Rocky Top so cheer up and enjoy the great years to come! GO BIG ORANGE!
Man this is exactly what this forum and fanbase needed. Those record comparisons really show CJH you could say has over performed. Keep it going. Also, just look at all our sports. Natty in baseball, second ever elite 8 in bball. Playoffs in football. Pretty darn good. GBO

Also I think I heard they are favored against Oregon. Too many Vol fans took the Michigan game and thought we would be the same. What those same people failed to realize is that’s a huge rivalry game.
Exactly right. ! Go back and look at some of the great Alabama-Saban teams and the one team they always had trouble with - and sometimes beat by - was Auburn. It was a rivalry game that needs the records thrown out. Rivalry games often provide the unexpected

The results of the game should not be a mystery to anyone. Rivals recruit rankings tell the simple story.

OSU Tennessee
2024 5 14
2023 4 10
2022 4 17
2021 2 22
2020 5 11

It's the Jimmies and Joes not the Xs and Os.
The above numbers line up perfect in columns until you hit "Save", but you get the point.
Then how did we beat Alabama twice in last 3 years?

If we hung a natty in every sport you negative SOB’s would still find something to complain about. Great time to be a VOL. Let the professionals handle this and enjoy the ride

Please conserve your money and take your money and your sports consumer logic and drag down some other program. A win/win for you and the Vol Nation.

Why folks think negative value add posting is acceptable in response to negative value add results on the field is baffling. They had a sideline full of other guys to deal with, posters only their own emotional maturity.

Posters like you and a few others have trouble with constructive criticism, huh?

If I don't have anything nice to say then I just need to keep my mouth shut, right?

I should never vent my frustration with the team when they obviously laid down and rolled over.

No, you are the only one dragging down anything when you tell me not to be critical when it's well deserved.

There is a wide gulf between identifying and discussing poor performance and the vitriol with economic threats in the original post. No sugar coat requirements anywhere i have seen. Lots of room for real questions, real analysis, real suggestions without that crap loading up the enemy and talking heads with MELTDOWN fodder.

These same folks TYPICALLY take dim views of players demanding more value from their experience. See player portal threads.

There is no PUMPING to offset the NEGA CRAP this time, none warranted. Don’t think the players get the option to hit fumble, drops, whiffs, and overthrow buttons seconds, minutes, or days after the snap.

Oh, funny. You think I'm the only one?

No, but we survived the TRAILER TRASH uprising, and we will survive these embarrassing outbursts on forums and radio shows and sell out season tickets with a chance of replacing malcontents with higher character more rational followers. Just like players, fans will be individually judged on how they handle adversity and each make up a minuscule portion of the greater VOL NATION. Just another bump in the road.

Bet you think the fans were more disappointed than the team. Bet the VAST majority felt bad for letting down those that made it to Ohio on top of their own personal pain. You know, the fans they addressed before the game trying to fire them up running around shirtless. The gap between EXPECTATIONS and execution can be a real pain producer for all.

You seem like a real nice guy. /s

The Vols got embarrassed and a bunch of fans are pissed because it's not the first time. That's actually a normal reaction. I don't know why you are bitching about it.

Everyone with one good eye can see the Vols getting embarrassed on the road more often than not. Something needs to change.

DW is in charge, childish rants in forums will not be a factor in his decisions.

No need or justification to project Vol fan NET reaction to the bad ending to a solid season. Let’s wait and see how many season tickets and single game tickets go unsold, that will be facts.

The reactions of prolific arrogant snarky fans is not new, sending moving vans to coaches homes, mattress burning when their classless acts were matched by a equally classless coach, voluminous projections of doom at the Titans move to Nashville, other painful losses down through the years have come and gone and the program has prevailed. Now those are facts.

Unfortunately the the reading and listening world has to endure serial piles of ******** while the purges are ongoing. Every program has them, easily evidenced by intermittently listening to Finebaum. When you have hundreds of thousands of followers you have to take the bad with the good. The good just need to counter the embarrassing output enough for outsiders to not be misled about the mix. Unchallenged can look like generally accepted fact. Thus, here I am representing the largest segment of Vol fans, the rational middle.

We got beat by a semi-pro team on Saturday.

OSU is expected to have 16 or 17 players drafted in the next NFL draft which would break the all-time record set around 3 to 4 years ago of 15 by Georgia
But that is who you are going to have to beat to win it all or even the SEC Championship. So far he is getting blown out by teams like this and UT looks non competitive.

That Youtube thumbnail is the exact sort of BS social media stupidity I despise. A misleading label, they photoshopped Heupel to make him look weirder / more angry, the obnoxious alternating white / colored text to emphasize a word as if somehow makes it true. I hate that it. I absolutely hate it. It's the sort of filth you find on your shoe after walking in the mud.

"Beat" is a strong word. Snuck by would be more appropriate.
In 22 we gave up 49 points and won because of the high level play of D. Wright, Hooker & Hyatt.
Home field was a huge advantage for us in 24. The seismic coaching change Alabama went through was another. Then their migration of talent. Like Downs leaving. It's not the same Alabama without Saban and it will never be again.

The Georgia and Ohio State outcome should be your guide. Super talent and stable coaching will not be beaten by mid level, top 10 recruiting and pitching pennies into a wishing well. There is no recent evidence of a team winning this league with average talent. It's a pipe dream. Has not occurred in reality.
