The south will "try" to rise again

Common sense, I live here, and I know what evil people like you are capable of if it weren't for those pesky 13th and 14th amendments.

Your evidence is common sense? So if it's so common, you should be able to demonstrate examples of societal regression where it's allowed.

There is no law that says whites and blacks have to treat each other politely and with respect, but race relations have been steadily improving. Society is progressive, despite your narcissistic efforts to paint it as evil so you can prop yourself up.

California? Speaking of places where race is an issue.

The south wouldn't regress. Society is generally progressive.

Shhhiiiiiiitttttt.......... Wanna bet?

Yeah I've always liked Cali, never have been though. Warm almost year round, hell yeah I'll live there.

Most people that are racist are racist because their parents were racist. I doubt there are many racists that grew up open-minded, saw the world around them, and then became racist. This also suggests that society would not regress.

I didn't say him, in particular. I don't know him.

But I know what this kind of talk is really all about. I think everyone does.

(My post was poorly worded in that I should have referred to the "evil THAT people ...." so as not to refer to him as evil. Not my intention.)

Some my have an event in life that changes their mind to racism.

Yeah, I agree that some may. The point is society is generally progressive. Those few who do change their mind to racism do not have a large impact on society.

If LG doesn't think society is progressive how on earth did we go from a nation practicing slavery to a nation that has laws guaranteeing equal rights for all?

Further analysis:

The south is labeled "racist" because it failed to abandon slavery as quickly as the north did. But the north failed to abandon slavery as quickly as a lot of the world did. If a northerner were to claim that the south can't be trusted with their own race relations based on this fact, then wouldn't it be equally valid for Brits to say New Yorkers can't be trusted with race relations? Why would the south regress, and not the north? Why doesn't the US regress? Most of our history is tarnished with racism in every region.

yes. a huge part of that progress requires the last generation to leave this plain of existence.

If you would add in that people are also influenced on race by their local society and personal circles, church, school, etc, I agree with your first point.

And having said that I am going to modify my point and say you are right and society would not regress into segregation in the South in the event of secession.

And having said that, I believe therefore that the proponents of secession have no chance at success.

So, I have 100 % changed my opinion. But in doing so arrived at inevitable conclusion secession is never going to happen. Thread is therefore locked.

Saying that it will never happen may be short-sighted considering governments don't last forever, but you are probably right with regard to our life times. I think the fact that the POTUS would possibly massacre secessionists is the biggest deterrent.

Any POTUS would, not just this one.

It's probably the most effective way to give states their powers back. Feds got too much control. A bit off topic, but I read not too long ago about southern California considering a secession from northern California and calling it South California.

Secession is a right that we (the US) support around the world. I could list many examples. We just don't support it at home. Typical hypocrites.
